I dunno, it's hard to read what other people think about you. I'm not very big but I think being so quiet and my facial expressions can put people off which usually range from flat to a sour mean mug, I try to smile but its forced and I don't think people like that too much either.
Yeah. Earlier in my life, forced smiles can be a double-edged thing. You see, back where I am from, people are usually self-absorbed pricks. Strangers will give you evils for smiling and greeting them.
On a lighter note, my NT friends were good enough (and very trusting of me, perhaps) to tell me that they were genuinely afraid when I was stewing silently in the corner... I never do anything rash, of course (counter-productive!), but I guess we have to thank the stupid sensationalist media for our reputation as potentially dangerous people. Warranted, but NTs are just as capable of doing stupid things.
Your post resonated with me.
I was really into the Pro Bowler's tour, Too. Chris Schenkel was a good announcer; but I liked Nelson Burton Jr. (a professional bowler, too) better.
I sucked at bowling, though, even though I used to go bowling once a week with my father. I had a 74 average at age 12. By 15, I probably had a 120-130 average--but never more than that.
My all-time favorite bowler was Mark Roth. He had a stroke a couple of years ago. I'm not sure how he's doing now. I also liked Johnny Petraglia and Dick Weber. Later bowlers who I like include Marshal Holman, Walter Ray Williams Jr., some Venezuelan guy name Amleto something or another, and Pete Weber.
If they had the PBA on Channel 7 these days, I'd still watch it. Especially if they conduct the show in bowling alleys, rather than outdoors.
That was the "golden age" of the Pro Bowlers Tour in my opinion. My favorite bowler was Earl Anthony. But I liked Mark Roth too. I remember watching him pick up the 7-10 split. And I remember watching when Marshall Holman kicked the foul light and broke it. I can remember getting nervous when Jim Stephanich bowled a perfect game. Some of my favorite bowlers besides Earl Anthony and Mark Roth were Carmen Salvino, Pete Hutchinson, and Gary Dickinson. Then there was Ernie Schlegel. I love watching old video of him bowling now, but back then, hmmm.
I don't watch the bowling on TV anymore. I liked the old days of indoor bowling alleys with maple lanes. I don't care for the outdoor lanes either.
The Amleto guy's last name was Monocelli (or something like that). Oh, and Pete Weber, I remember when the crystal trophy fell as he was holding it. Wow!
To VioletYoshi: Yes, I loved Kingpin. I think the Bill Murray part (Ernie McCracken) was based on Ernie Schlegel. That was very funny indeed.

When I am mentally concentrating on something my eyes tend to lose focus and I squint, even though my eyes still track movement . This makes some people think I am 'glaring' at them. Also, I have always been a large person, not 'fat' just built large - 6'2 and 240+ lbs.
Combining these characteristics with speaking in a monotone have actually made people afraid of me in the past. I make a conscious effort to smile when in public, which helps alot.... except for when I stop to think about something. THe change can be unsettling it seems.
For example I was on a trip with long-time friends and we stopped to get gas. A stranger asked me a question which I had to put some thought into before answering. Apparently I dropped my smile and had on my 'concentration' face. After, my friends asked what I said to the guy because he walked away looking scared and put off. I was just trying to be nice, but I intimidated the person.
Think Sheldon's concentration face . . . (From Big Bang Theory)
On Dwight's body frame . . . . (From Haven)
