Modern Consensus on Refrigerator Moms?

what about fathers over 40? I read somewhere that the incidence of schizophrenia in the progeny of >40 year old fathers was notably higher. might this also be true with autism?

Ah yes, the house appliance movement in psychology. They strove for strong word pictures to illustrate their meaning by association. Besides 'Refridgerator Mom', their was Microwave Dad, and Dust Buster Aunt, Circular Saw Sister and Uncle Waffle Iron.

Actually I had heard the term but had no idea what it meant until this thread, :wink:

I hadn't heard about refrigerator mothers since my 1980 abnormal psych classwork. showing my age here :oops:

Maybe, but only if there is some sort of correlation between fathers over 40 and "refrigerator moms", otherwise it's just another factor.

There are still some idiots who list refrigerator moms as a cause. Dr. Robert Melillo does. While he doesn't use the phrase, he does blame the idea, amongst others, in a section called "whose raising our Kids" in his book Disconnected Kids. Though keep in mind he is actually a chiropractor disguising as a autism specialist doctor.

Chiropractor's were always pseudoctors anyway.

why does it seem so many chiropractors are branching out into all different fields of medicine outside of spinal disorders?
