I love this thread, as it has helped me put together some more of the pieces in my journey of self-awareness.

Not sure if I have the same difficulties as others have said, but I have come to hate movies... barely have gone to any, and most of those were children's movies when my kids were younger. My ex would put one on every night, and it was always a blur. Can't tell the characters apart - those movies with a big ensemble cast are the absolute worst! What am I even supposed to understand, with all these similar-looking guys in suits? 8O

I don't have much trouble following the plot in movies (unless it's a bad movie). Actually I really prefer art films where the plot is subtle and you have to pay close attention to what's going on. I don't enjoy movies that have a really obvious plot.

But sometimes I have a lot of trouble following what people are saying. I do better with the subtitles on.

Sometimes I also get mixed up on who the characters are, if the actors aren't immediately recognizable to me. Like if I watch a low budget tv movie, and I don't know who the actors are, and some of them look similar to each other, I may get them confused with each other and not realize they are playing separate characters.

I go online and read the plots to movies I've already seen kind of a lot. It helps me understand what the movie was about; I read the plot to a movie I had recently seen (can't remember what movie it was), and the whole point of the movie was way different than I thought it was supposed to be. It was like I was reading about a totally different movie but with the same characters.

that helped me a LOT when I watched "interstellar."

The same for me. If there are no subtitles I have a hard time following along.

This has been a problem for me too. Same reasons.

Additionally, I have a real problem if violence or even the action is intense. I just seem to take it to heart as though it's real. I'll look away--there's my defense.

My friends are usually okay with my having problems keeping up with movies. They stay aware of details and fill me in where I'm lost but I still feel like I'm losing the movie experience. Same happens on TV shows.

I didn't have much difficulty following the plot of that one, which is unusual for me.

from what I read it was a basic people story without a lot of convolution to it.

I thought it was a nice study of crusty meanness and jawdropping nobility co-existing in the flawed hero. Everybody else was either a villain or a victim. Easy :-)
