NVLD is not a diagnosis in the US. My daughter, who has no "special interests" and milder symptoms, has the label PDD-NOS. My son had it before AS became an official diagnosis.

The Yale Developmental Disabilities group sees it as mild:

PDD-NOS is a hetrogenous group, but so is the AS group.

No, that's "schizotypal". Schizoid is basically being a loner, not caring about others, and generally not enjoying much of anything.

For their IQs, yes; but not compared to somebody without Down's. It's the "low skills across the board" problem that comes with developmental delay... A specific person might be motivated to connect with people and have normal social skills though, just out of interest and experience.

This all makes me very curious about what I would actually be diagnosed with...um...if only I could find a doctor I could trust.

Tell that to the thousands who have that diagnosis! It may not be in the DSM but it is a learning disability that is recognised and diagnosed all over the US.
