There's a Dilbert cartoon in which the shrink offers him pills to stop him finding computers more interesting than people. He replies by suggesting the shrink gives everybody else a pill to make them more interesting.

If I could be bothered to get reassessed since the last dsm changes, I'd likely be level2. I voted no.

There are things I dislike...things like sensory overload, the burnout crap I deal with and still deal with, randomly going mute, getting overwhelmed at the drop of a hat, major executive functioning issues, and so... that I could do without. But at the end of the day, I have no idea what becoming neurotypical would do to me as a person. Despite the things that I dislike and the occasional upsets, I am generally content with my life and I like myself. I don't want to be a different person. I also don't want to have to learn how to navigate life differently. Yeah, I'd stay the same.

I am mildly Autistic, my bride is not-so-mildly ADHD. I frequently suggest that she should get the Autism upgrade, she denies it would be an upgrade.

Voted no, but I do wish I could remove the autism related burnouts, and subsequent having to ‘put on a show’ and pretend to most people that all is ok just to get through a week at work and pay the bills. Socialising is nice when I can, but can be hard enough anyway without the extra feeling of exhaustion making it awful and therefore much avoided.

Though I’m lucky I like my job, and I don’t dislike myself (human flaws and all) and I think my autism has something to do with both in my little world.

I think this poll is missing a valuable option: "Would you want autism-free weekends?"
That, for me, would be the ideal situation. I'd get all the plusses of ASD (independence from emotion-amplified preconceptions/genetic programming) with freedom from its cons (no emotion = no motivation = no success & no empathy/communication with others).
Dr. Oliver Sacks describes such a situation in one of his books- a jazz saxophonist lent a certain genius by his tourettes, who nonetheless resented its downsides. By simply not taking his meds on weekends (or was it the other way round?) he got the best of both worlds. Wish i had that choice!

There's probably NTs who have autistic traits. Like Sheldon Cooper. He may as well be autistic but he's not.

I know, the darkness I have as a human would likely be carried over such opportunity and translated into something more actively malicious than apathetic for just having the means.

A lot of NTs are nasty, but I think given there is a rule on WP about making gross generalisations about a group of people it might be a goof idea to tone down the anti-NT rhetoric

Sorry, I misinterpreted your reply. I thought you were saying "If" implying that NTs are like that. Didn't mean to put words in your mouth, I can now see what you are saying.

It does seem that NTs are portrayed pretty negatively on here a lot. Not sure why that is. Yes, some of us (myself included) were bullied by people who were NTs, but most NTs did not bully me. I would like to be less odd and better accepted by others.

I think human nature drives us to want to be accepted by society so I think deep down all of us want to be accepted by NTs even if we don't think highly of them.

The thing about NTs is that they're just people. There are good and bad people who are NT. I don't hate them, but I do feel nervous when I meet them because I don't know whether they'll be nice or super judgy. That's if I meet a sighted NT. If I see a blind NT I get freaked out. That's probably a trauma reaction, but then again I think we probably all have trauma reactions because of all the bullying that happens.

I hate physical needs, more so psychological needs.

Not that I'm bitter with that -- all mentioned needs in my case are relatively more fulfilled.

I really just hate how humans "work".
Like how most children are most impacted in that regard and would likely dictate how they'd live their adult lives.

Or, how loneliness even works and exists as a function.
Not a mere simple statement of 'people are people' or 'a person is a person'.
