Are you embarrassed about being Jewish?
you dont have to be jewish, it is your choice
I am not going to belabor my point much more.
It is more like being "not Christian". Being different than 90% of people. (Save your rants about it being ok to be different, I am not entering that discussion).

I never felt comfortable around Jewish people. Their personalaties are very different. Always complaining, rude, opinionated. I hated going to Synagogue. My parents forced me to be Bar Mitzvahed.
Not to mention, being different. 90% of people are Christians in this country. I hated being the only person in class that didn't celebrate Chrirstmas.
I just felt weird. I would convert to Christianity, but my mom couldn't handle it.
Oh and newsflash! I hate to be the one that breaks this to you. But people don't exactly have a positive impression of Jews. I don't tell people I am Jewish. I tell them I am Christian.
Dating as well. I would like to date a girl that has some amount of religious faith. That becomes a catch 22 for me if I like a Christian girl. If she has some amount of religious faith, she is not likely going to want to marry a Jew.
Hey, want to know the name of the church the last person to "witness" to me went to...where I went for a time?
Adat Yshua ha Adon!
YEP, HEBREW "Congregation of Jesus the lord"!

A lot of the people WERE hebrew. Some were real blacksheep. Heck, one of the HERTZ family(the car rental company) went there.
Anyway, the jewish people have LOTS of incorrect beliefs, etc....
1. The typical "jewish mother". Gets over involved in your life, guilt trips, etc.... That is COMMON, even outside the jewish faith, etc..
2. Jewish people are nice, honest, etc.... Many aren't. Heck, I even went to a conservative synagogue. YEP, a REAL one! One where they definitely do NOT believe in jesus, wear yarmulkes, etc... I went there with a christian brought up orthodox jewish. Anyway, one of the congregation got up and changed the sh'ma to make part of it hebrew centric(read ANTI GENTILE)! The rabbi was taken aback a bit, and tried to prod her to do it right, but STILL, TYPICAL!
Ironically, Jesus had the SAME problem, so he told a story of how a jewish person that was hurt BAD needed help. All the jewish people left him there, but a good SAMARITAN helped him. That has lost meaning over the years! I mean SAMARITANS are SUPPOSED to be good and do good deeds, right???? BZZZT, WRONG! The samaritans hated the jewish people. So the idea of the story was if THEY can help someone they hate, YOU should be willing to do it as well.
3. Christians hate jews. That is wrong ALSO! Do you think Jews would have gotten where they have without christians? NOPE! Some risked their LIVES in WWII just to save the jewish people. Heck, the King of denmark wore a star and encouraged everyone else to do so as well, just to frustrate the NAZI attempts to single out the jews. The fact is that the Christian bible includes the torah(known as the old testament), and the new testament calls the jews the chosen people, says that Christians are merely grafted in, but that the root is hebrew.
Of course, Christians don't follow the Chrsitian faith any better than the jewish people follow the jewish one. And some DO hate jews. Not all of that is without reason. Yeah, I know....The jewish people can say the same.
4. Christians are the same. NOPE! I don't think there is ANY biblically correct Christian church. Catholics like to think THEIRS is, but theirs is the biggest abomination of all. The Bible doesn't speak of saints, speaks against calling people father, speaks against unmarried leaders, against sin, etc.... And JESUS is supposed to be the leader of the church. Christians confess sins to, pray to, etc... Jesus! He is the SON in the CATHOLIC(and christian) blessing of "in the name of the father, son, and holy spirit" In fact, the CATHOLICS(and most christians) consider him part of a TRIUNE(The TRINITY), so he is kind of GOD and SPIRIT as well. CATHOLICS confess sins to a church leader, pray to a saint or mary, etc... And Jewish people follow some variant of the Misnah, while claiming to follow the torah. Yeah, I know...The mishnah is supposed to codify to torah, but still...
Anyway, if you got married your wife might want you to convert even if you were BOTH christian! HECK, my catholic mother at one point wanted my baptist father to convert.
Anyway, HECK! I try to be honest, so I tend to evade the question of faith. On HERE I am somewhat annonymous. So I can say I am now atheist. Heck, I might even go to a meeting. You would be surprised at where I have gone. Heck, I think a moslem mosque is about the only place out of the top like 5 religions that I haven't been to. I know a lot about THAT too though. Oh, and THEY are based on Christianity(In a VERY distant way! Abraham and Jesus are equal and considered mere prophets), so THEY don't stick to THEIR roots EITHER!! !! !! !! !! !
If you want to say you are Christian, learn a bit about it first. Otherwise, I think they will understand EVEN if they find out.
WTF. Are you a troll impersonating a Jew? Because this thread really looks like that. This whole thread needs to be closed down before other trolls start their own ARE YOU EMBARRASSED TO BE CHRISTIAN, MUSLIM, GAY, BI OR HUMAN.
FFS.

I'm a little shocked by what you've said in this thread. The only time I've ever heard such stereotyping of Jews it was by non-Jews who'd met very few Jewish people. My girlfriend's parents insist that Jews are cheap, for example. I can't say my family is always complaining or that they're more opinionated than anyone else I know. I know people who are a lot more rude than my family members. Most of my family are quite considerate. In fact, I've met very few Jews I'd consider rude at all within my own communities. I've met a few Israelis I'd say were pretty rude but in Japan I'd also likely be considered rude. The culture is different. And I've also met Israelis who didn't fit that stereotype at all.
As dating is concerned, my issues that I've had with women haven't been due to religion. Reflecting I think much of it outside of general dating woes had to do with being an aspie. My current girlfriend -- who will be converting -- has no problem with Judaism. Her parents do but they're bigots. They have a problem with blacks too.
I can understand that you might not like being different and that's a separate matter. If you don't want to be Jewish that's your choice. Every Jew today is a Jew-by-Choice. If you don't want to go to shul, don't go. If you don't want to keep any observances, don't. If you want to convert to another religion, convert. If you don't want any religion, don't have one.
FFS.
Why does it look like I am impersonating a Jew? I am being honest about myself and who I am. Something a lot of people on this board would be better off doing.
What are you hoping others will say to you in this thread? What type of response were you expecting?
Good question.
I want to find out if what I am thinking is in any way reality. Does anyone agree with my feelings about being Jewish? Am I wrong about what I feel?
Am I completely off base?
Converting to Christianity won't stop you being jewish. You'd just be a jewish Christian with a p***** -off Mum. You need to spend time with different jews and develope a more positive identity. Some of the greatest people in western civilization were/are jews.

JWR,
I think you're completely off base. I think that this quote from Sander L. Gilman's Jewish Self-Hatred: Anti-Semitism and the Hidden Language of the Jews as cited by wikipedia may explain some of what's led you to your conclusion:
"...the internalization of the negative stereotypes about who you are--the identification with the reference group's image of you as 'the other' in society. The person who is labeled as different wants to find out why he or she fits the stereotype, or to prove that he/she does not. But the more one attempts to identify with societal definitions in order to fit in, the more one accepts the attitudes of the determining group, the farther away from true acceptability one seems to be." Obviously this statement could be applied to any group which is the subject of bigotry."

I think if you survey the responses you've already received in this thread you'll find confirmation that others also think you are off base. There are legitimate reasons a person may take issue with the Jewish religion but that is a bit removed from stereotyping the characteristics of the Jew.

I don't practice Judaism. However, I am certainly not embarrassed about being Jewish. I grew up in New York City, which has the largest Jewish population of any city in the world (including Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa). My background is that of a secular Jew from the New York Jewish intellectual subculture. I am a college professor, and most people I went to school with ended up becoming professors, medical doctors, attorneys, etc.
If you are embarrassed about it, my suggestion would be to learn a bit about your heritage.
