Depending on racial heritage only about 1/3rd of the population is sensitive to sodium related hypertension. The rest can eat as much as they want without it appreciably affecting their blood pressure. It could cause other problems, just as excess ANYTHING can, but it takes a LOT of salt to reach that level.

So sound like my aspie like dad. From as long as I remember he would poor salt on his hand/thumb and suck it or on crackers, etc. I learnt this from him but have grown out of it.

I don't hate it, but I don't like badly seasoned things. I try to reduce salt sugar and fat to increase the magnitude of things I can taste. I believe those this can dominate and you are missing out on a whole other experience. What 's more sugar and fat are highly addictive in combination and separately.

I'm indifferent to it.

Too little can be fatal, but too much can be fatal.

Oy.

http://www.wanjashan.com/include/homeE.htm - it's ok - nothing compares to the real stuff - which I'm aiming to get sometime soon, if I can locate it - Japanese soy sauce - can't recall the name right now. But this particular one - is pretty generic - you could prolly get it in any good health food store.

I never realized there could be a connection between the salt and Asperger's! I eat rock salt all the time and when I was little I used to suck on the salt shaker.

As a kid, I never understood my family's love for adding salt and eating salty foods. They are very, very NT.

I don't cook with salt at all. I use it only when necessary in baking. I never add salt to prepared food. The only time I shake it is on buttered popcorn. I use unsalted butter too.

I've gone through long stretches of time where I've cooked prepared foods (noodles in a cup, bag, jars of sauces) that have salt in them, but find ways to dilute the salt. I buy store brand pasta sauce because it has the lowest sodium content. I have enjoyed restaurant food that is salty (steak rubs, fried chicken)

I have normal blood pressure now, but until I was 30 (childbirth) I had low blood pressure.
