surely an aspie bracelet or ribbon should be holographic-rainbow-stimmy colour?

at autscape we had interaction badges, red yellow or green depending on who (if anyone) you wanted to be able to talk to you. ironically it wasn't particularly useful at autscape, since most people there were autistic, so conversation was usually interesting and nobody made annoying smalltalk, so I didn't mind being talked to.... it would have been more useful back in nt-world afterwards, but nobody would pay attention to the badge!

Why don't you people listen to me? I'm telling you, you need to stim! It is the clearest sign you can give, the most self-absorbed aspie in the vicinity will easily pick up on it , and no nt would be caught dead doing it, it's a win win situation. WTF is the problem!

How about articles of clothing which have the slogan, "Stim it up." On them?

I say combine all three, while wearing your neon orange "stim" shirt you can scream "ASS-BURGERS!! !" at the top of your lungs while doing your most spastic stim routine.

Why don't I just walk around outside wearing one of those sandwich boards that say, "Aspies Are Here! Inquire within."

What's really weird is that a lot of people ask me what the puzzle bracelet is for and I tell them it's for "autism awareness" but nobody has EVER asked me why I would be interested in autism. Same thing when I took vacation leave this year to go on a 5-day fund-raising trip for the Autism Society - everyone knew where I was going and what I was doing and saw the pictures when I got back, but not one person asked me why I did it. I don't know if it's because they figured out I'm Aspie and so the reason for the bracelet and the trip is obvious, or if it's because they hear the word "autism" and it scares them away, or if they're just genuinely not interested.
I suspect it is because the word "Autism" stirs up images of small children rocking silently in the corner. Most people I meet cannot seem to grasp the concept of a high functioning autistic, or that the toddler in the corner eventually must grow up into teenagers and adults. They assume they have pegged your preferred charity and are content.

*laughs hysterically* Ahh this place is good for the soul! *wipes eyes*

I have made myself a singlet top that says "Aspies Rock..." on the front and "Literally!" on the back! I have also thought about designing a bracelet, but I too dislike orange and 'warm colours', and all the other bracelets are puzzle bracelets which annoys me. I reckon a nice rainbow mottled 'jelly' bracelet would do the trick, with some sort of cool slogan on it. And I agree: WE NEED SIGNS! I reckon we need something to replace the puzzle... perhaps a rainbow smiley face gazing off into space? A rainbow stick figure flapping their hands? A rainbow stick figure in a sea of black stick figures? A rainbow eternity symbol? I don't know, and don't bite me if you think the rainbow concept is prissy: I prefer blue/green/purple but I like the rainbow because we are on a Spectrum and we are all different. BUT WE NEED SOMETHING PEOPLES!! ! Something cooler than a rainbow ribbon puzzle badge...

*chuckles*
I am glad Iwas able to amuse you. :)

Aren't rainbow symbols already claimed by a different group?

Over the summer I volunteer for a couple weeks at a summer camp I used to attend.
When I think a student has AS and is male, I'm right.
The time that a girl seemed to me to clearly have AS she was dagnosed with something else.
I'm still certain that she has AS, but the directors wouldn't talk to her parents about it (damn neurotypicals and their social skills).

Then in Con Law class, again, a girl, clearly has AS, beyond any reasonable doubt to my mind, not diagnosed.
Again, the educators won't talk to the parents (I spoke to my Con Law teacher, the psychologist, and three people in the SPED department)

Arggh!

When I see a student who clearly has AS these people know I'm probably right, they admit that.
But they don't see it as any of their business.

Well, if it's not the business of people who work with the kids, whose is it?
The random guy on the street?

It doesn't help that a lot of psychologists wouldn't diagnose AS in females, since they saw it as a strictly male issue, and that's still being overcome.

Digression: Odd thing is, propostions here seem to be about equal male:female. Odder, since on internet forums my experience is that the users are overwhelmingly male.
Maybe the females with AS just post more here or maybe I'm missing something bigger.

i can gerenaly identify AS people tho sometimes it can take me 2 years  and that girl is so much like i was **smacks head** but I have always been good enf friends with them by the time I realised that I have told them with no bad reactions to date. But I am sure my 14 year old cousin has it and his parents are convinced he is perfectly normal

Girls just don’t get diagnosed as much because we hide it better having a part of the brain dedicated to social interaction that boys don’t

Also, it seems like girls get more instruction in social skills than boys do. I know I got harped on for "rude" behaviors that went un-noticed in my brother, simply because I was female.
