I hate waking up in the morning. I could sleep all morning til 3pm. I generally do if I have the option.

I'd like to try that music alarm thing, but I haven't yet.

You can try setting the radio to go on in the morning and you can set it to a soft volume. Even if it is soft, if the radio stays on, it could wake you.

What I really want is an mp3 player with a built in alarm to set any mp3 you want to wake you. There are plug in speakers that don't have to use any power source that can plug into the headphone jack of the mp3 player.

Not everyone has an iPod, but an iHome accessory is great for one. It's a speaker/alarm system with a dock for an iPod.

For me, I use that to wake me up with the radio. My local rock station pretty much just contains talking in the early morning, and a lot of the time they're having a very interesting conversation. I might lay there in bed still awake listening to that conversation. Eventually I'll be wide awake in a few minutes and get out of bed to get ready for work.

Holmberg's Morning Sickness???? I loooove that show!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! ! I lived in AZ my whole life until mid '07. I LOVE John Holmberg!!
I'm so sad I can't hear it anymore here from CA. I need to figure out a way to stream it online at work without my IT dept at catching on!

I don't really know the name of the show, the radio wakes me up in the middle of it. The name sounds familiar, though. All I can say is that it is on KDKB (93.3).

KUPD is great too. I don't stick to just one type of rock anyway. See my Last.fm profile for details (it's in my sig).

I'll have to listen to Holmberg's Morning Sickness, thanks.

I struggle to rise in the morning hours! I started working night hours(10:45pm-6:45am)eight years ago, and I love it. It's easier for me to sleep during the day, and wake up in the evening. When I was living my "socially common" schedule, I would stay up well into the night/morning watching television, struggling to fall asleep. I love third shift, and will stay on this schedule as long as it's possible.

What I find frustrating is that, even though I go to bed and wake up at the same time everyday (except weekends), my body simply can't get used to it. :x

It's nearly impossible to wake me up. I can turn off my alarm without realizing I've done it and there are times when I've slept beyond 12 hours just because I never woke up.

Really the only thing that woke me up was a nearly exploding bladder. :?

I've tried things like putting my alarm across the room and that doesn't help because I just get up and shut it off without remembering that I did. For people to physically come into the room and wake me up, that doesn't work either. It's like once I'm asleep, I'm comatose.

I have difficulty getting to sleep at night. I listen to music on my radio (it has to be the radio, so that it feels alive, somehow, and I have to have a very gentle light source in the room) on sleep, and daydream into real sleep. Except for when I can't get comfortable or my thoughts just won't relax!! !
I've tried warm milk, chamomile tea, minimal effect. It got to the point where my doctor gave me sleeping medication.

I have trouble getting up at times too. I'll often reach over and hit my alarm clock into radio mode and then go back to sleep. Which is why I have multiple alarm clocks scattered around my room. I'm not always happy about it, but I'm up and I try to arrange something nice to have for breakfast to get me into a good mood.

One thing that I've noticed though, is that it's gotten easier to wake up and go to sleep once I was diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and got onto CPAP therapy. It felt awfully weird to get started, but I get a more restful sleep. The same with Anemia and iron supplements and with depression and depression medications and Vitamin D supplements. But that's my medical stuff. It might not apply to you.

I thought about getting more than one clock. In college, I'd have my clock set up across the room and also have my mom call my cellphone about 15 minutes after the alarm just in case. I thought about maybe two or three clocks set up to go off within ten minutes of each other, but I know I'd just turn them all off or throw them (I've broken so many clocks).

Breaking alarm clocks is why I can't justify paying fifty or sixty bucks on R2-D2 here:

It's so cool and having to chase my clock would definitely wake me up, but I'd just go into a rage within the first week and probably slam it into the wall.

I'm terrified of the alarm clock. I hate it. Especially the loud beeping sound. It's a little less severe when it's music, but it still rattles me & sets off my nerves for the day. Unfortunately, the radio part of my alarm clock stopped working, & now I have to listen to the loud beeping sound. It sets me up for a bad day, but after a while, I can usually overcome it, unless anything else happens soon after.

Thanks everyone for the tips. :)
It finally occured to me last night that I should at least check the alarm fuction on my mp3 player to see if it could work. I listen to audiobooks at night and I figured the alarm would just turn on the player and start playing whatever was playing last and since I hate waking up to talking, I wrote my mp3 player off as a way of waking me up. I looked last night and was excited to find out that I can set it to play either the radio or a random track for the alarm. That's great because I've been using my phone's alarm for a while now and it gets really irritating to find myself humming the ringtone all day long so now at least I have a better chance of humming a decent song all day and I also won't get sick of one tune waking me up each day.

I didn't get a chance to try it this morning because one of my cats woke me up, but the truth is that I'm a night person anyway and I like being a night person, so I doubt anything will make me wake up in the morning happily. But at least I have something new to try now.

If you hate waking up to an alarm clock, you have to try a sunrise alarm clock. It was my splurge for Christmas this year, and I just love it. Even my husband likes it (and he doesn't like ANYTHING!) Here's the link:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_hg?ur ... ck&x=0&y=0

It wakes you up slowly and gently, simulating a natural sunrise. The alarm part of it is a quiet beeping that gradually gets louder (but not really loud). It also has a sunset feature to help you get to sleep and a white noise feature.

I love it and can't say enough about it.

About sleeping too much, if it is not related to a thyroid problem, check to see if you have depression. It took me many YEARS to realize that my long hours of sleeping, my weight gain (not related to diet) and cravings for carbs were NOT related to hypothyroidism, but that I have Atypical Depression. The right medication has made all the difference in the world.

You may also want to do a sleep study to see if you are having problems with breathing while asleep, or other sleep disturbances that you are not aware of.

You just reminded me of a clock I was looking at online a few months ago but I don't remember what it was called. It started maybe a half hour before the alarm was set and would slowly start turning on its lights and it played a nature sound that got progressively louder, and if I remember correctly you could also have it start releasing an aroma into the room. Maybe I'll try to find that again.
