That isn't the point. The point is that anyone can enjoy better functioning and health with better diet.

I have AS, that doesn't mean I want to spend my time lost and depressed instead of happy and focused on my special interest.

We know that. We're talking about increasing general health. Some people think that AS makes certain physical problems more likely. I don't agree with that, though I do know that nutritional deficiency acquired the usual way--by not eating a good diet--is more likely with Aspies because of food taste/texture sensitivity and dietary routine.

Maybe having AS just makes it more important to be healthy. If it makes you more vulnerable to physical and emotional stress, then it makes sense that physical health would have more of an impact on functioning level for AS than for NT. I don't think we're any less healthy, on average, than NTs; at least not in ways that can't be accounted for by lifestyle.

thank you all- this is all incredibly helpful!! i will print it out, and decide what to try.

i have quite severe diet problems anyway, so know im lacking in the most basic vits and minerals anyway. i have an intolerance or sensativity to everything- even mineral water makes my stomach blow up. 8O i did try a gluten / casen free diet a few years ago,and felt much better, but then developed such bad reactions to all the alternatives that i had to start again as i got alsmost food poisioning like symptoms from soya, grains etc. plus im vegitarian.

i dont run a fridge (noisey, vibrations= WAY too unpleasent) which makes it dificult to keep udo's oil etc, same with pro biotics. cant find decent oils in vegan capsules.

since autism is a physical brain abmormality- if that isnt too rude- i thought it was a good idea to target my brain function to help it function to its optimum, as its already clanking along. in the same way obv one functions better sober than with flu and a hangover, thought trying to help my overall function might help my a.s symptoms diminish a little. as i said- b vits made me a bit hyper after a couple of months, though far better initially, which is prob just a dosage question. it did however make a really noticable difference to me, in the same way taht eating soya now makes me think much more slowly.

i was also treated at the (NHS) royal london homeopathic hospital for stress and anxiety but had really adverse reactions to everything, and found the instructions hard to follow and gave up. i spoke to someone at the Hale clinic (expensive alt therapies) re a.s, and they have a homopath there who treats it, who said that many a.s people are ultra sensative to homeopathy, so he gives very low dosages. but at £150 an hour, plus meds, it is beyond me.

thanks all very much! ;-)

I have some irritating diet problems, too. I also eat a lot of anti-inflammatory foods like pineapple to keep the swelling and rashes down. The spice turmeric is also a great anti-inflammatory. Sometimes I make a tea with turmeric, ginger, lemon juice and maple syrup, if I have a injury or work out too hard.

A decent diet and enough exercise will make you feel as well as you are going to feel.
