Oh wow, it's genetic.

That probably explains why my Gradfather was a mechanical genius but when he was stressed would sit in a chair rocking and pulling a piece of string across his face.

Why my Uncle went to University at 15 to study physics but can't go clothes shopping.

Why I did final year english when I was 12 and was bored because it was too easy but never had friends and last but not least, why my Son has hyperlexia but had to be taught to laugh.

Geez what a waste of money. I could have told them it can be genetic.

Hahaha. Yeah. I have to say, I'm SOOOO super shocked to find out it's genetic. Really? Oh wow. This totally explains why my dad knows so much about computers, can't break routine, and never talks to me. This also explains why his dad never talked to anyone either and spent a lot of time in the woods.

Just as long as our future generations are not murdered in their mother's wombs, I'm fine with it. At least I don't have any brain damage.

-"People are morons, people like bloodsausage too. Do you want some, i have some here in the glove compartment..." :D

Everyone knows it's genetic. I think the point was that they'd found a specific gene that's involved. And once they do that, they maybe start working "therapy". That's what was wondering how people felt about that.

They've found the specific gene? Which one is it. Because if I can go and get a test and PROVE that I have it...

On the one hand I'm glad because

1. We can prove it exists. This would put an end (to a certain extent) to the a**holes who say we're faking and are just lazy social outcasts.
2. We can prove that vaccines don't cause it.

But on the other hand...

1. Now that it can be tested for, it can be eliminated. Uhhhh....

If I knew I were having an autistic child, I'd keep it, but I don't know about other people. A lot of people hear "autism" and they think it's this big f***ing deal. They don't know that it's NOT as bad as your kid being in a car accident like autism speaks would have you believe.

I agree that it's a good thing because of the two reasons you listed. There's just a huge freaking amount of ignorance regarding autism, IMO. It's amazing how very little that some trained professionals and special education people know about handing autistic people.

Some NTs will make a big deal about it but I can't really blame them because it's a problematic thing for a parent to not be able to understand/communicate with their child.

I wish my parents would've made a huge deal about me having AS after I was diagnosed, but instead they insist that my poor social skills and eye contact can be cured just by spanking me just a little bit harder. 25 years of spanking later, it hasn't had much affect.
