Male/Age 21/Caucasian/Chicago Area, IL, USA

- 80s pop music
- Classical
- Classic Rock (i.e. Rush, Led Zeppelin, Boston, etc.)
- Heavy Metal/Metal (i.e. Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Rhapsody, Dream Theater)
- Oldies

This is an interesting topic. I would also like to see the demographics.

Male 25, Sweden.

I feel as if music drains my soul, even classical sometimes has that effect. Opera certainly does and pop/dance music just sends me into a manic episode and completely drains me.

The only music I can listen to for longer periods is ambient lounge music, usually from video games. Sometimes I just want to listen to sounds, like a washing machine or a dishwasher breaking the silence, or water boiling. If anyone have any advice on music I might like, please tell me. On my blog are a few samples of what I like, it plays automatically and selects randomly:

If I say "heroin music" you should get the idea of what I like. I need advice on where to find more heroin music, because most isn't very commercial.

Imagine this... You just had a meltdown and you're sitting in a large, greyish lounge, like a movie scene where the colours are a bit washed out, old. The main colours are different shades of grey and brown, it's raining outside, you're alone. On the minimalistic but sturdy retro-style table there's a small cup of some oozing hot beverage but other than that it's just you, the emptiness and the room. It's like a scene from an abandonded nazi airport in the 30's. Imagine suitable music, real heroin music.

Name your five (or whatever number you care to give) top bands/music artists of all time, and give your general age range?

Linkin Park, T.M. Revolution, Daft Punk, Dragonforce, Dj Imphinity. Though I tend to listen to the streams off di.fm and albums that are complilations from many artists..

I'm particularly interested in my own demographic (white male, age 43, US citizen, college educated)...but...that doesn't mean that this question is closed to anyone else--in fact, it would surely be just as interesting to me (and others) to look for any trends/themes that might show up pertaining to AS/AD folks.

In connection with the whole Belgian thing...I have to admit that my perception of the trance stereotype (at least in the USA) is that if you listen to trance you are either a gay male, European, or a stoner backpacking through Southeast Asia. When *I* put on trance (or when I crank out the Rammstein, next on my 'desert island' list) I love watching people duck for cover from the shards/shrapnel of *those* stereotypes exploding. It's certainly great fun to "break wind in the palaces of the mighty" as the saying goes!

Black Sabbath
Frankie Valli and/or the 4 Seasons
Peter Gabriel (including his stint with Genesis)

Hmm...maybe Sam Cooke to round it out.
