I usually get obsessed with past tragedies. The only news story I ever got REALLY obsessed with was Baby Jessica in the well (1989, I think). I was 10 years old. There was a TV movie made about it which I recorded. I later got a mini cassette recorder and sat in front of the TV, recording only the audio on a tape. Then I listened to the audio tape on car rides :)

the titanic. Possibly my most focused interest ever. i watched the damn movie well over 20 times in theatres and well over 100 times at home, i collected news articles about it and many other things from it. it died off one day for some reason.

when i was a teen decades back, i saw a blurb on the nightly network news [john chancellor, i believe] about how in tokyo, a elderly lady was discovered dead in her apartment, and tacked onto her tv set was a note "to her only friend" [the tv set]. even as a clueless dumb kid that made me wilt. it was 1975 and it won't leave my mind after all these years.

I'm much more interested in Alfredino Rampi and his death. I saw a documentary on this made for TV on Youtube but it has no English subtitles so I didn't understand a word :( But the Alfredo Rampi case isn't my obsession, just a mere interest of mine. In one episode of LHOTP there is a motive of Carrie who fell into a deep hole in the ground and everybody was doing their best to pull her out.

Being from the US, I never heard of that particular story. I dunno why I was so obsessed with the idea of a kid in a well...

The BP oil spill and the damage it caused to wildlife. I donated money to the cause as well and it helped me feel a little better.

I've had an ongoing obsession with the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster in Ukraine and the Love Canal disaster in NY. I obsess over it for days, take a break, find some new bit of information or interview or photos, and it starts all over again.

When you need to know more topic

Chilean miners rescue

Russell Williams trial

Kayla Klaudusz murder, back in 1991.

Some stories just stick in the front of your mind, as I wrote back in April '10.

Now the topic of my news story obsession is the disappearance of Ewelina, a girl of 14 who was nowhere to be found for a month until they found her body yesterday.
