Sensory sensitivites
Sensory issues: Lights, fluorescent, flashing, Styrofoam, squeaking, tags, the sock thing too, as well as fabric sticking to me. sound that is continuous or intermittent I can't get away from or loud (sometimes any sound(white noise included)), touch from people, without telling me first, or when I don't want it, odd but, bunched blankets or clothing I can't immediately assemble right, smell occasionally. I don't know if this counts but crowds.
I heard SPD as a standalone diagnosis causes sensory sensitivities, which excludes social impairment, so NT. Also I know people with migraines, schizophrenia, people born with exceptionally acute senses, or the reverse people with hearing difficulties report frequently that loud noises are extremely painful. NT's on their period if they are female, and anyone who has had an especially stressful day may be more susceptible, as overload is not exclusive to autism it is just much more extreme usually. For diagnostic exclusion purposes, determining what is caused by what, since you can have unrelated sensory issues with AS, I don't know. I often wonder why I am reacting, if I am just super tired, or is it a normal reaction for everyone, or is it AS related. I find myself reacting, and then determining the environmental cause after the fact. I hate that it hits before I have a chance to calm down. I think the triggers may be similar (sometimes) in both, just activated sooner for AS people.
I have so many sensitivities, I don't think I can list them all. I can't wear stiff clothing (like jeans) and there are a lot of foods I have texture issues with so I can't eat them. I also don't like a lot of smells and lights often will hurt my eyes if they are too bright and loud noises hurt me ears.
My NT mother wouldn't let me and my siblings play with Play-Doh as kids because the smell bothered her so much.
