I'm not a big party person mainly because I don't like crowds. I do better with small groups or one on one. I tend to feel left out or insignificant the more people there are. Even with three or more people I sometimes feel like people aren't paying attention to me. If I know someone really well it's not as much of an issue but even with family gatherings it seems like I have to go out of my way to talk to them and always make the first move. I guess that's one reason I started my own online group where I'm the leader. It's new so only time will tell how much of a success it is but so far so good.

Yes, parties are torture because there is nothing to do except sit around and eat......and get very nervous because all there is is eye-contact, body language and words. Yet, people seem to get a big kick out of just sitting around and yakking. Everything is centered around conversation and food.... which causes me to overeat senselessly. That is why most parties are torture for me

but I also realise that they have a longer-term value; if you don't do any socialising then later you feel kind of sad because you're out of it

so best to do a bit even though it is hellish at the time


save your social resources (very slim as they are) for the people who matter most to you

My way is I just like to be alone and don't like noise and I want to relax. Another good way of hiding it is bring your toddler with or your husband who is disabled and in lot of pain from it so that way you have a reason to leave sooner.[/quote]

except i dont have a toddler, or a husband. i could probably pay some idiot to pretend to be my husband and pretend to be in pain. or if his act at being in pain isnt convincing enough, perhaps a good, swift kick to a sensitive place in the body can help his performance.

I find parties to be pointless, a bunch of people get together so they can drink and have an excuse to act like idiots for a few hours...
That's pretty much all a party is to me. Plus, in public I'm known as the "anti-social" one who talks to no-one, and would rather not be around a crowd full of people as they talk about stuff that I find not only boring, but also stuff that I can't relate to, so I never say anything anyway and the few times I do, I'm not actually a part of the conversation (dispite being right there) and am generally ignored.

It depends what kind of party. Even then, if I get to be the center of attention, I don't really mind, but when the conversation strays to other people's pointless minutiae I just wanna torch the place and get out of there.

I think I would self terminate, if I had a surprise party thrown on me. As for a regular party/celebration, I would rather sew mail sacks, be stretched on a rack, or have my nails extracted very very slowly.

Surprise parties tend to have presents though. Hell if the presents are good enough I'd willingly be stretched on a rack in exchange. And another thing, why is there a flood control on editing? That's just weird.

Hummm, I may have to concede on the presents bit, but I have never been the recipient, just the guy that gets dragged along to someone else's.

Oh jeez...I think a surprise party would send me looking for someplace to hide.

I avoid them if at all possible. Christmas for me will be a quiet get together with a couple of friends. Even then I would be just as happy making something in my workshop. Apparently welding a car on your own on Christmas day isn't acceptable behaviour...
