MG,
I couldn't find my score for the EQ, so I did it again and got 15. I think last time was 13 or 15. I find it surprising too, because I feel like I have an abundance of empathy. Sometimes I can't even sleep because I worry so much about others. It seems there is a subset of empathy where autistic people are lacking. It doesn't mean that we don't "care".

I only got eleven. I was rather shocked. I had no indication while I was answering the questions that I would score so low.

Same. I tried to be very reasonable and select options 2 or 3 rather than extremes (1 and 4), but I still got a low score.

:(

Don't let these tests be the decisive factor in how you view yourself.

You seem like an empathetic guy, Mountain Goat-----screw the tests results.

*Fetching my screwdriver and some screws...*

I believe I may know why. Some questions say things where I thought "No one can know how another person thinks and feels. They can guess, but not actually know.

That's an example of "taking things literally" LOL

No one really KNOWS what exactly what another person is thinking about. There's no such thing as a "mind reader."

MG,

Don't let it bother you. The whole point of your thread was to determine if you might be on the spectrum. Your scores definitely indicate that it's a (strong) possibility. That's exactly what you wanted to know.

We all know that you are a kind person and that it's common for autistics to feel a lot of empathy, regardless of their clinical score. Just keep on being you. 8)

Thee's something I don't get. I just don't get how my scores with that link I tried as so deep onto the aspie side that I just can't understand how this is possible. I have just seen someone elses score which then really surprized me as I know that this person has been assessed. And this person has far more struggles, but does not show up so deeply on the test things I did a few days ago.
It is puzzling.

Everyone shows differently on those tests, MG. Don't let the scores upset or confuse you. There is soooo much more to the professional testing than what you see on the online tests. Other people could have comorbid conditions affecting them, which you don't have, or perhaps you have comorbid conditions which they don't have. The scores themselves don't show the big picture. It's really hard to compare two people and their degree of need.

Thanks. So the test indicates that I am a likely candidate for an assessment.

What struggles we have is determined by a combination of two things; our traits and our environment. Whether a trait is a major problem can depend on anything from how much tolerance and support we get from the people around us, through to something as simple as how far it is to the nearest shop or bus-stop. It all depends whether or not we're required to do things where the trait creates a problem.

I'll vote yes, just because you don't strike me as NT.

Sorry it's such a long wait for the test. I wish I could express to those who are waiting (or don't have access to testing) what I have come to realize, after finally having a super-official ASD diagnosis.

You STILL wonder. In my case - which of my symptoms are due to ASD, vs. PTSD? Are my personality traits better explained as Schizoid/Schizotypal? And then, even with a rock-solid diagnosis, you'll still get people saying "but you don't seem autistic" (or continuing to simply not care, as they didn't before).

NT's tend to prefer to just think of you as 'just a person', not so different from them. They want to downplay your differences - which in a way is kind, but in another way invalidates our struggles, in trying to seem 'normal'. Seeming vs. Being are two different things, and it's utterly exhausting to have to put on an act, your entire life.

Anyway I wish you the best in coming to understand your issues, and hope you can get some answers soon!

Thanks. I think I have already found some answers. The main one being that I now know what I have been experiencing most of my life since the age of about six or seven onwards... Have been partial shutdowns and shutdowns. I never knew what they were and could not describe them that well to doctors.

Someone I know on here said that I came across as having very high functioning autism. I am trying to figure this out. Does that mean I'm brainy! :D Oooh! A reference to being brainy! Haha. Uhmmm. I am not quite sure I can keep up with the masses of brainy people on here. :P
