no but sh** itself is which is why people avoid it, since the smell usually precedes the sh** people know avoiding it is as good as avoidig the sh** itself ;)

And it's good to avoid the sh** itself since it contains infectious bacteria such as E. coli

I like looking good, also I got my hair cut because when it gets too long it's harder to take care of. I love having short hair which means I can have shorter showers and just get out of bed without brushing it.
I have to shave because I don't like how hair feels.

I don't see anything wrong with wanting to look good. If I didn't I'd look like Sasquatch.

I prefer to look nice and I have to since I work at a store and will be working as a paralegal once I finsih college.I cant stand not having a shower ....I must have one everyday, otherwise I dont feel right.Deoderant is another must, especially since I sit in a classroom alot of times with other students...and one class is threee hours long and I would be the most hated person on campus if I subjected my classmates to three hours starring my body odour in that class all crammed in a little room.
Personal hygeine and good appearance comes naturally since I take pride in not looking and smelling like the bums that roam Ross Street in downtown Red Deer.

Distressed to see no one arguing in favour of beards! My beard is just about the only thing I like about myself visually. Otherwise, my face is distinctly featureless and not masculine. As for hair, detest having my haircut so often grows far too long, but though self discipline I've narrowed the excess time down to usually a month or to than previously six months to a year 8O

Long hair on guys can look very good, if it's well taken care of; so if you're only mediocre in the hygiene department, I'd suggest keeping it cut short.

There are some very easy-to-use home haircut tools that will cut all your hair to an even length--basically, a buzz cut of up to about one to two inches depending on the clippers you're using. It's a lot more convenient than going anywhere to get the haircut.

I haven't bothered to get it cut in over a year now, after I got it buzzed. As for shaving, well, I don't want to have a giant freaking beard. I'd be so self concious:p

Beards are great if that's what you want but not everyone with AS wants to be hairy.

Shave and a hair cut topic

My NT children are very conscious of their grooming habits. My daughter is into makeup, nails, etc. She has a "toad" if one little strand of hair is out of place or not supposed to be there. My son is fussy about odour, breath, etc. My oldest daughter has particular adult habits.

I like to be clean, neat and organized, but will not wear scents, makeup or fancy hairdos. Just cut and reasonably clean, both body and hair. 8)

Actually you can see it in 2 different way:

Antropological way:
You must cut hair and have a shower because you live in a society where they are good things. Suppose that you are an alien on earth and you MUST live on earth they most rational being is to try to seems like a terrestrian. That will let you study and interact with terrestrian in an easier way.

Pure rational way:

hair cut: actually there is no reason to cut your hair if you don't like it. Long hair are commonly accepted for both men and women nowaday. I use to "wear" long (red) hair, I didn't cut them in 5 years, till this summer when I short them a bit because it was too hot.

shower: if you don't shower you'll "stink", do you like people who smell "too hard"? I don't, I feel it disturbing, so you can assume the same.

I don't necessarily think that's an NT thing.

I'm aspie and I take more of a pride in my appearance than some NTs do. It's a mechanism to try and overcome the disadvantages AS can pose when it comes to attracting the opposite sex.

I just like to get my haircut... it's fun for me, lol. I'm guessing because my routines and plans are so important to me, and I try to keep things the same way day in and day out... I have fun getting a change in personal appearance every now and then, just to mix things up.

But I don't go and just get a trim or anything like that. I always get something completely new, or else it doesn't feel like a real haircut.

I think it just depends on the person, whether NT or Aspie/Autie, it doesn't matter. Some people just like to keep up with things like that while others do not.

I don't do it for everyone else, I just like doing things like that for myself because it's fun. Just like how I dress basically the same exact way every single day (washing and drying the same clothes every night so I can wear them the next morning, only having maybe 3 different outfits), and every once in a while I have fun dressing up. It's a pain in the butt... I wouldn't do it every single day or freak out about it, but when I do take the time to do stuff like this, I have fun with it and enjoy it.

I have a haircut every 6 weeks as i don't particularly like growing my hair too long as it starts to get curly and thick and shave twice a week although i use a electric shaver as i have sensitive skin can't do blades.

Well my hair gets wavy when it grows, so I like to get it cut so often. With shaving, I try to shave twice a week with a manual razor and cream, dont see myself using a electric razor.

Same here. Actually it gets fluffy, ew. It just makes me feel conspicuous. I keep my hair under control because I want to look... not like a big fat weirdo. Heh.;;; But I wish I didn't have to shave. (I'm female, so it's mostly legs and pits. Well, sweaty pit fuzz isn't nice, but leg hair doesn't do anything. It's just like arm hair, which nobody minds, so I wish the trend of keeping it shaved would go away.)
