Whoever it was who told Alex off for using WP to make money, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. You wouldn't take that crap if you were in his shoes.

Well put! Some kids just don't know about money, since they haven't had a job yet. They'll learn in time!

He could at least have the decency to change it to .com

Why? What good would that do? Apart from create a buttload of broken links.

Oh, I get it. COM = commercial. WP isn't a commercial site, so it shouldn't be .COM

.ORG might work too. .EDU is reserved for schools only, although this is certainly a learning site. .NET seems like the most logical domain extension, though, particularly since it is in the logo :-)

I do believe WrongPlanet makes money the way non-profits make money: it doesn't actually GROSS anything, but it helps to support itself by advertising.

I don't think Alexander is making a killing. Far from it. If you count the time and effort he puts into building and maintaining the site that he could put into any other job, I'm sure he loses a great deal of money on it.

It seems clear that from what Alex has said that he's putting a lot of his own money into the site. Someone once pointed out that if every pot smoker sent $1 to the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws (NORML), they'd have enough $$ to pay a full staff for at least a year and plenty of bucks to lobby Congress. If every WP user sent $1, that money alone--never mind the advertising bucks--would probably keep WP going for years. I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is.

Even if Alex was making a profit off of this website, so what???? He should, this sight has helped 100's of people and reaches out around the world to those who need this sight, and yet he'd be critized if he makes money???? Why is it that when a person does a good work they are expected to be paid nothing, thats silly. where I work people quit.....in tears......they don't make enough to pay rent so they have to go to another job. This is a time consuming website, so even if Alex makes it his job then he has my backing.............come on critics, Alex only has so much hours in his day, and this sight costs us nothing to be on it, so be grateful.

why now tell the person it was who told Alex off for making money using WP that they should be ashamed of themself? Why not at the time the person did tell Alex off in the first place? makes more sense at the time, now this is an old subject which shouldn't be brought up again, it caused trouble then, and will only cause more now

EDIT:It seems that Alex was told off again recently in a PM (see here) so it appears the issue has been raised again and the trouble has already started

That's the one I was referring to.

I think Alex has a right to make as much money as he can from this site. Even though im not to sure if he is even breaking even. I don't see why people are so hard on him.
