So, when I was very small, some friends were over my house. I didn't have many friends,I was too little and focused on science and dinosaurs and never wanted to "play". But I had a few, and I tried my best to fit in. So one day they were each sharing their "favorite color" with one another. And it came to be my turn. I was floored. The idea of a "favorite color" had never occurred to me. I mean...things had colors...but the colors had nothing to do with me and offered me no pleasure in their existence. Well, I panicked, and picked yellow, just to fit in. I didn't really like yellow. On further thought, I realize that there are a lot of nasty things that are yellow. But at the time, I chose yellow, and stuck with it for years.

I still don't get the idea of a favorite color. So how weird am I?

Well, I get the idea of it, but picking just one favorite color would be like picking my favorite molecule of air.

I just say blue even though I don't feel any sort of favour for blue over the other colours.

I always thought having a 'favorite color' was so when several of the same things were presented to you, you could pick the one with the color nearest the one you favor. That helps. I also like things to be in a particular color scheme, it harmonizes my thoughts.

I didn't know you had to stick with that color though, if you aren't into having 'favorite colors' then chose one you at least prefer. :chin:

Some people strongly prefer one color over another. Others don't.

I've never truly been able to choose a "favorite food". I've never had major sensory issues where food is concerned, and I like all sorts of tastes. ANd really, how can you compare the taste of a cherry with the taste of chicken salad or the taste of steamed broccoli or... Well, they're all so different. It's like.. comparing apples and oranges. (Sorry.)

I have like 3 favourite colours (I mean: I'm not going to say I like deep dark blue, that is too specific), red, yellow and orange. Most of the times I pick red. For food, I just stick with chips (fries), because everyone likes it and so do I. The exclusiveness of it made it easy to know when my parents would give me a tasty diner/lunch. I think it's the most convenient food to pick, too as it's somewhat the same everywhere (no special family recipes and that kind of differences, so ideal for parties and other occasions like that).

I hate "favourite" questions - favourite colour/movie/song whatever - I never have one favourite - all colours are nice or ugly depending on context - same with everything else - stupid question in general.

My favourite colour changes depending on what the thing is that is coloured. But generally, if asked, I tell people either red or orange, whichever falls out of my mouth first. But green is also up there at the top, purple is close to the top also. Yellow is okay, but only at certain times, and everyone who knows me knows I claim to hate blue. And that's it for basic rainbow colours. Though I sometimes claim my favourite colour as "rainbow" because it's pretty true. I'm a very colourful person, or at least I like lots of colour around me.

But in general I have a hard time with "what's your favourite..." questions. I can never decide, it's too difficult of a choice. Except for favourite actor, that one has a very clear answer.

So did I... I wonder why we both went for yellow? I think with me it was because my bedroom wall was painted yellow. I liked my bedroom wall, therefore I decided to say yellow was my favourite colour.

Most of my clothes are black. So I guess black is my favorite color. Could have something to do with my obssesion with Johnny Cash.

For me color is very much tied into the way I feel. Color becomes tied into particular themes I am in. The themes tend to start with an emotional experience and then the color is tied symbolically with that experience that starts off some theme of exploration.

For example, two years ago, I experienced a tragic loss in my life. I got a new duvet cover that was pumpkin/rust colored, and for some reason, it gave me great comfort. That color became a theme. I bought peach moonstones and made things with them that I hung around my house. I found stones that color on the beach and kept them.

That color became symbolic of the person that I lost. It's her color now, I associate it with her.

It can change fast, or be a period of years. Or, I might just find a particular color to be very beautiful and seek it out in clothing for example.

I notice color trends in popular culture, too.

Color is archetypal, connected to emotions and if you relate, the chakras.

Also, favorite, to me just means where my mind goes at the time you ask. Favorite is habit of mind until it changes....

People ask "What's your favorite..... "as a way to connect, start conversation. They think they are gaining some insight into you, which may or may not be true but can be a way to get conversation rolling or serve as entertainment.

I tell people that my favourite colours are red and green, because it's true.

Exactly. I always find questions about "favourite" things to be rather pointless. If other people like having favourites then they can go for it, but I don't want to be involved in it and I never know what to say when someone asks me a "what's your favourite..." question. I don't have any one particular favourite anything, it all depends on the context.

I have a really hard time with favorites myself. I rarely can come up with something that is truly a "favorite". As for colors, I usually think of what colors I like to wear, and that would be black and gray, Telling people that those are my favorites would lead them to believe I am a boring person or Emo or something, and I am not like that. I love all sorts of colors and I like them in different things. I am an artist, so when I see a color composition that is beautiful it really moves me. I love to look at a sepia and gold composition but I would not say my favorite color is either tone. I love midnight blue, and that is the shade of blue that suits me best, but not my favorite color either.

I could not even begin to pick my favorite food or song, band, artist etc. There are too many out there with a variety of styles that I like equally, and my mood changes. Anyway, if you lock into any "favorite" for family or friends they will get you stuff for presents in that category for the rest of your life, so I don't think it is always good to commit to a favorite.

My favorite colour is blue, don´t ask me which tone! In my opinion different colour preferences reflect somehow the person´s personality since each colour can be associated with a different emotional state. I guess...

"Far away from the land of our birth
We fly a flag in some foreign earth
We sailed away like our fathers before
These colours don't run from cold bloody war"
