I have been laid off since October 1, I am going to start a job training course July 6 for medical billing, Every job I have worked at I have been treated badly by my fellow employes but loved by the bosses. I am never late hardly ever sick and I even manage to come in when the roads are closed due to heavy snows. I go out of my way to get the job done without any flaws or problems.

I will finish my job training in October and will be looking for employment which I will hopefully will find. I was thinking when I start this new job to keep to myself not even talking to the other people working there. I can not take another decade of insults and aggravation from a new bunch of idiots. I think if this new job just brings me a new bunch of tormentors I am going to quit right away then suffering for another decade. If every job brings insults and hatred why bother working I am going to try to get on social security disability before I hurt myself or someone else. What are your views or job experiences?

It took me a awhile when I was young to get a job. But I have been in the same job for 28 years now. I got lucky though. I basically deal with people in the morning for a few minutes, in the evening for a few minutes but all day I am by myself. Sure I have to deal with customers all day but it's very quick and I am on my way. Nothing past standard greetings. As odd as it seems being a UPS guy is a pretty good job for an Aspie. Not enough social to cause a lot of pain but just enough to keep me from feeling isolated. Plus I get to memorize maps and all the different ways to route different areas.

Okay, here's an opening. If you were religious, fellow employees would understand that, cut you slacking for being somewhat standoffish and not participating in teasing (which often blurs into mean-spirited teasing). Now, I'm not suggesting that you pretend to be religious if you're not. But there might be other openings we can find, if we as a group here call upon our collective strengths and experiences. For example, if you're planning to take classes anyway, having a book there and 'needing' to study gives you the perfect excuse not to participate in low-grade social. And there might be other openings as well.

Do you ever tell your fellow employees about your AS? I told mine that I have autism. At first, before I told them, they were rather standoffish, but now they're really nice and treat me great.

The people I worked with in both of my jobs (resteraunt and machineshop) were bottom of the barrel cannon fodder types.to say they were crude low I.Q. types would be being polite. I just thought I was weird or a little crazy when I worked in the resteraunt I did not even know what Aspergers was. They would have just used it as something else to pick on me about. At the machine shop I told them I think I have Aspergers and when they asked what that was and I told them they said autistic type people just rock back and forth and do not pay attention to their surroundings your clever when you have to be. But then again they would love to watch talk shows so they could spend the entire break period as a chance to make fun of blacks, the mentally challenged, homosexuals, and over weight women. I loved break time they were picking on people on the tv and not me.

I don't think it's odd at all. :) I used to work as a bicycle messenger :) for a major courier company , I really enjoyed it being a mad keen bicycle nut, though it all came undone after a severe head injury. When I get the all clear from my GP I'll be trying my luck in that industry again (heavy vehicle) transport/messenger. I don't mind dealings :) though 9 + hours a day living in the pockets of NT's no thanks I just want to be left alone. :)

Also it's an industry that allows non educated not very smart people like myself 8) to earn an above average wage 8).
