(This topic is relevant for this section...)

Is anybody else massively freaked out by the commercials for Progressive and Nationwide insurance? Do true NT's respond differently to these commercials? What about people who know they're on the spectrum--are you freaked out, or no?

I just know that if I ever met Flo, or that Nationwide guy IRL, I would hide under furniture or run screaming the other direction. That is so NOT the way to sell a product to me.

What other commercials do you think aren't neurodiverse-friendly? ;)

I'm not really sure what commercials you're talking about.

Oh... I recognize Flo but the other one is new to me.

Flo is just stupid. She's a ditz and her voice grates on my nerves.

People's voices can EASILY send me into a mental overload.

But for Flo--it's the entire overbearing demeanor, the eyes, the body language, everything, just...SCREAM!

I think almost all marketing is horribly self-satirical.
I usually laugh uncontrollably at many tv commercials or printed marketing spiels you find on products themselves

Some commercials are funny, I agree. But they scare me.

Also, the screaming Office Depot man feels like a Q-tip being stuck in my ear. Not quite in SCARY territory, but definitely "sensory overload" territory.

I get mad at commercials a lot. There's either herpy derpy people like that Flo woman, or it's toddler humor.

Some commercials however are works of art, but you almost never see those.

They're not as scary as the Viacom V of death!

Flo? I cannot stand her. Every time the commercial comes on it sends chills through my bones. Her personality is exactly what I try to avoid. I suppose marketing data shows that the average American just loves this sort of personality :eew:

I am massively freaked out by the Birds Eye advertisements with the stalker / voyeur polar bear inside the freezer cabinet - "Hi, Fiona", says the bear when she opens the freezer, he criticizes her food purchases, and ends with "and Fiona, I am watching you..."

The old Palm Pre ads are the creepiest yet IMO:

I think all commercials are scary. In fact what is even more scary is the fact that a lot of people are paid a lot of money to peddle untruths and far fetced claims in order to manipulate our spending habits. I cannot stand any comercials. Some are funny that is true, but the underlying theme is decieving us into buying their products (which are usually s**t and unnessesary)

The Michelin sad road commercial, wonder how many little kids had nightmares after seeing this one?
