Everyone who is autistic is severly dissabled and in a wheelchair. (Told to me by a schoolteacher who teaches in a large school).

All autistics are asocial.
Or asexual.
Or aromantic.
Possibly agender as well.
Or apathethic.
Not to mention amoral.


I AM for most part, except the last two parts.
But that doesn't mean so do all the rest of autistics.

Myth: All autistic people lack emotions, but not the ability to mimic emotional behavior.

Myth: All autistic people like to torture pets.

Myth: All autistic people play with fire and will eventually commit arson.

Myth: All autistic people possess paranormal abilities (i.e., telepathy, precognition, et cetera).

Myth: All autistic people wet the bed or are otherwise incontinent.

Myth: Any actor who can believably portray an autistic person must also be autistic.

Myth: Any autistic person can recognize any other autistic person at first sight (e.g., via "Aspiedar").

Myth: It is possible to accurately diagnose a person with an ASD long after they have died.

Autism is over-diagnosed. Oddly enough, this myth is from the autism community.

That we all look and act like emotionless androids.
That we lack empathy.
That we are all intellectually disabled.
That we're all "idiot savants".
That only boys can be autistic.
That you can somehow "outgrow" autism.
That being abusive to autistic people in ABA is "therapy".
That Autism $peaks is a charity and not a hate group.
That we're all cold-blooded psychopaths.
That we ruin the lives of our family members.
That we should all be euthanized.
That we're all like Rain Man or Sheldon Cooper.
That we will never have a future or a good life.
That we have no sense of humor.
That we don't feel emotions.
That we can't feel pain, emotionally or physically.
That we should be forced to act "less autistic".
That we should use first person language i.e. saying someone "has" autism the same you say way some has cancer.
That autism is WORSE than cancer.
That we have a horrible disease and must be cured, even if it's by "cures" that can harm or even kill us.

All autistics lack empathy (my favourite myth )

All autistics are excellent in maths, science and technology (those are the 3 things I am the worst at)

All autistics have a special interest in trains and nothing else (I've only ever had obsessions with certain people)

All autistics are undateable (I'm in a healthy, loving relationship with an NT man and I don't find it challenging at all)

All autistics are incapable of understanding any jokes or metaphors (9 times out of 10 I understand jokes and metaphors, so you don't have to speak to me like I'm some sort of robot)

All autistics are either as clever as Stephen Hawking or are as dumb as a knob (I'm neither, just somewhere in the middle but can be a little dumb sometimes)

All autistics hate socialising or having anything to do with other humans (quite the opposite for me)

All autistics lack imagination (I have a HUGE imagination, even as a child)

All autistics are Rain Man (I'm quite the opposite. I'm probably more like characters that seem like Aspies but aren't intended to be Aspies by the creators)


I believe these may be stereotypes. But myths, stereotypes, what's the difference? Both are misleading anyway.
