It's interesting to me, I've got autism, granted, a mild form, but still.. to be called a Social Butterfly by a very, very good friend of mine.

She said I'm not very 'autistic' at all, but its just.. sorta odd to me.

Anyone have any feeling/thoughts about it?

Are you sure what she meant by "social butterfly" is the same as what you understand by it?

A social butterfly might, to some, be someone "Fluttering around the edges" rather than one who can do nothing but conform to the dictates of fashion and society.

(The latter is more my usage... an individual blown by any strong (social) wind, unable or unwilling to set their own course and hold it.)

A social butterfly in my opinion just means someone that socialises a lot.

Social Butterfly is what I always associated with someone who can go into pretty much any group and be somewhat accepted.

Ditto. But that's not exactly your average description of someone with Autism....

You know what I mean?

Ah, I may be out on a limb in my usage. (it wouldn't be the first time)
I would have those above filed under simply "sociable".
And in many groups I can do that, too. (But what's my motivation?)

I would reserve "social butterfly" for someone who does that, *and has to*, whose world hangs on social acceptance.
