...to tell everyone in the world something about autism.

Assuming that they can understand you (no language barriers), and are going to listen (but not necessarily agree with) what you say--what would you tell them?

Because I have Asperger's, sometimes my facial expressions don't match what I'm actually feeling. I am not constantly 'depressed' or 'bored'... my face just does not always express what I am feeling at that moment.

1. I cannot conceive of my saying anything meaningful in only 30 seconds. It takes me that long to say "Look out."

2. I have to say [long time linguist, long time lousy communicator] that understanding the words and even listening without prejudice does NOT guarantee comprehension.

3. That said - what I would like to drum into EVERYBODY's head - including mine - is:

IT IS ALL RIGHT TO BE DIFFERENT.

I am not bad, I am different, accept me and let's grow old and rich and wise together.

in an ideal world maybe, but the world never really hears and often has blinders on.

After contemplating the answer for about 15-20 minutes, I would have to say:

Listen to my words, not to my tone or body.
In fact, whenever we communicate, I'll talk thru a blowing fan, and you'll keep your eyes closed. Sound good? Awesome.

"LISTEN to my words, just once in your miserable lives, I beg of you, you sons of a motherless goat!"

Sorry Callista for my inappropriate reply. I got issues.

I do not wish to be cured. I want acceptance, instead. I do not have an illness or a disease.

I can learn. This is not a cure, this is not a miracle, this is not because of chelation or going GF/CF. This is because of being human.

(I'm bad at judging how long it takes to say something or do something. I did try watching a clock, but I'm not sure...)

What's this for?

We are autistic, so we are different. Accept us or not, take us or not, we always have been and will be. Accept us, we'll accept you back. Don't accept us, it won't matter. If you don't accept us, you don't understand us. All that matters are the people who do.

Dang it... I've broken the 30 seconds by quite a bit and still don't know what I should say!

Accept me or not. It is your loss if you do not, but I will still be comfortable in my own skin.

My autism is not a contentious disease.
