Hi all,

I just found out from the NW Autism Center that there will be a special screening for this movie, in Spokane, on April 14th. Jerry Newport will be there apparently...they are going to have a wine and beer reception and then show the movie. I am hoping to at least go to the movie. If not that night, I will be going that weekend, and I will post a review later. Hopefully, if the movie is good, it will be distributed to a wider audience, or at least it will come out on DVD fast, so we can all see it.

Tallgirl.

==For those of you who missed the discussion on this movie: This movie is about Jerry Newport, an Aspie, and his wife (?) who also has AS. Here is the link to the movie site, which contains trailers.

I really liked the movie, although I was incredibly tired at the time I watched it and tend to get quite easily emotional in that state so I don't know if that had an effect on my opinion of the movie.

I can't wait to see it, but I doubt it will be released around here. Guess I'll have to wait for the DVD to be released.

I just saw the Mozart and the Whale here in Spokane where it was filmed (not the special screening, though... where was that?). I really liked it, too, although partly because almost every scene was shot somewhere I've been and know well. The River Park Square mall where they meet up on Halloween is where I saw the movie. The bench in the greenhouse where they planned their date is about ten feet to the left of the one where I first asked a girl if she wanted to go out with me. She said maybe.

I did get arround to seeing it and I can't complain at all on it - I think they were pretty well-rounded on hitting a lot of the topics (not in a super in-depth or explanatory way but then again it is a romatic comedy). What surprises me is the fact that it's somehow just not manage to rub Hollywood right - I thought there were a lot of pretty good Napolean Dynamite type moments as well as some definite dry humor to the movie that you'd think most people would be in hysterics over. The fact that Punch Drunk Love blew up and MATW couldn't even catch air over here is a little puzzling to say the least.

I'm not saying I don't believe you, but could you please quote the source that claims this movie is based on Jerry Newport and his wife?

I want to see it, but I don't know where to go around here. I'm not really sure about which website to go to in order to find out which movies are playing where.

No, Josh Harnett and Radha Mitchell. I know what your talking about with Sigourney, I remember hearing about her hitting up some support groups to try and get a feel for who her movie character is, but I'm really not sure on the name of that one and haven't really heard anything on it since.

Jerry himself is my source on it, and also he's said that it's only loosely based on them, like some of the scenes weren't things that really happened, but were still realistic for the sort of couple they are. Also said the characterization was very accurate on the part of the actors.

But this search should provide you a lot of sources too

I really want to see this but no theaters nearby seem to be playing it. It's frustrating because we usually get limited releases here in the bay area. We got "Mirrormask" and what not...why not this?

Same here, as a matter of fact though I don't its been showing in any theatres stateside - none of the film or production companies have wanted to buy it and while Jerry Newport might have had a few that came close it never materialized. Again though after watching it (bit torrent style) I still really don't see how it sucked that much to never make the theatre.

I watched it too that way. I would love to see it at the movies on the big screen. I hope it gets released here in Australia. I would like to take my whole family to see it.

Its early releasing in Spokane...based on spokane performance they may
release it nationwide...I expect based on early positive reviews that ive seen that it will get picked up for a nationwide limited release.

One interesting review it was the best performance Josh Harnett
has ever done.

In otherwords you will probably have to drive a bit to find the
theatre that will play it. One thing hopefully they will do is
get it to critics early on...this is a film critics and word of mouth
will push with a little luck it could be a surprise sleeper hit.

I haven't seen the movie yet but my fear is that due to the popularity of the movie many normals will want to be aspies because its trendy and they'll go around pretending to be aspies and then it will be hard to distinguish who is a real aspie from who is not. LOL.

This link works for the lower 48 states in the US not sure were to find showtimes for other places. You put a zipcode and it finds the near by places.

http://us.imdb.com/showtimes/

and here's the imdb link for Mozart and the Whale

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0392465/
