This is one of the oddest things ever! I can't believe it's true! I enjoy mild pain. I don't like severe pain and I can tolerate moderate pain, however, I enjoy mild pain. I am about 100x more tolerant to it than most people. However, I don't like being touched on the shoulders by anyone or anyway (except the head) by people I don't know well. However, I wouldn't like it if someone my age touched my head if I didn't know them well, but I am OK with any adult (or younger children) doing it.

You should note that I am dealing with physical pain, not emotional pain here.

Is this an aspie thing? Enjoying some types of pain? I have heard stuff about this.

I enjoy pain that is not too strong, as well. Of course, very strong pain is generally unpleasant. I am very hyposensitive to a lot of stimuli, including pain, so sometimes I like to inflict it on myself whenever I feel sensory deprived. I used to be obsessed with getting shots as a kid, at least partially because I enjoyed the pain (and partially because being a doctor was a special interest).

I don't like light touch, either. It has to be hard touch. Light touch feels like my skin is being corroded.

Pain like a stomachache/headache or pain like a slap in the face? (Physical ailment type pains vs. S&M type pains)

I'm not sure I can say whether or not I enjoy some mild pain, but I do express some types of pain in a strange way: laughter.

It seems random, as I can't say it's 'shooting pains' or 'dull aches' that make me react this way. I haven't been able to pinpoint the cause, but the result is that sometimes when I'm experiencing moderate to severe pain, I laugh uncontrollably, almost hysterically. It's pretty embarrassing since it's happened to me while I was on the bus, alone...so it was hard trying to focus on not laughing but being in pain at the same time. I also laugh at really inappropriate times too, so that's also embarrassing and difficult to explain.

But, back to the thread...I sometimes pick at scabs or scratches very slowly just so I could experience the sensation of pain. So, maybe I like it after all? Seems like a possibility...

I like some kinds of pain, dislike others. It's less a matter of intensity than type. I do not love being outright injured, having toothaches, headaches, pretty much anything that indicates there is something wrong. But I can deal with other kinds of pain.

I have a high pain threshold as well, and can remain functional with significant amounts of pain and no painkillers (but I do not love this, either). Enough pain and I can't even spare the energy to put up a polite front.

I like small amounts of pain, injury type. I like the feeling of biting a sore lip, and applying pressure to a minor wound/cut. Or applying just enough pressure to hurt a little bit anywhere. I also like stretching muscles; sitting or standing in 'uncomfortable' positions. I don't know why, it's weird, I'm glad it's not just me.

There are a few types of pain that I like, but it's probably best that I don't go into that on here, haha.

I used to induce mild pain on myself. Supposedly, the pain and pleasure part of the brain are one and the same. I think that to an extent pain can be pleasurable. But, I am not much for too much pain. But, sometimes, I have enjoyed it.

I peel the skin off of stuff so it hurts. It's weird because I never really think of the feeling as pain, though, to me it's just the feeling I get from feeling my skin.

I enjoy all of the sensations that you just described ...which is interesting because I never considered myself hyposensitive to pain. I think I may even be hypersensitive to extreme pain!

One of my stims is hitting myself with balled up fists on my legs.
Although meltdown inflicted pain can hurt more, probably because I am using too much force.

I find it pleasurable to crack my joints and kunckles. Everyone else I talk to says it is a painful expirence. I go to a chiropracter to help with my scolosis and every chiropracter I have ever seen says they wish all their paitents were as relaxed as I am. My mother won;t go to one because she thinks it is painful. I once cut myself and didn't notice until I saw that the room looked like a crime scene. I had to have stiches for it and the novacain hadn't taken full effect but I didn't want to wait for it too so I let the doctor stich me up before I was one hundred percent numb. I wouldn't say it was pleasurable but it didn't hurt as much as most people would have found it. I was bitten by a snake twice and it did not hurt at all perhaps becuase my body was so full of adreline. The other time I was bitten by a baby ball python and pythons kill by squeezing, not biting.

Mild is okay, I mean I have fallen off my bike at 20-ish mph and it was insane, it felt like time slowed down. I've also had my lung collapse and every time I rolled over in bed it felt like someone was dropping rocks on my lung and I hated (though I could tolerate it with a big ass smile on my face).

Also, it fascinates me that more people don't enjoy pain. People can be born blind, deaf, mute, etc. but how rare is it that you hear about someone who is neurologically backwards to the point that they are at risk of killing themselves because of how good it feels?

a minority opinion here- i am almost never sensory-deprived [my one sensory deprivation belongs in the adult thread], and indeed wish i had a volume control so i could turn off or down some of my painfully intense senses- somebody PLEASE invent it! any amount of pain has me reaching for the analgesic. i cannot conceive of "good" pain.

I have a very high pain threshold, so I could say "yes", but really they are just another sensation for me that in some situations I view positively, or more likely, as a stim.

Yes. I enjoy mild pain. Not just tolerate it, but actually enjoy it and find it relieving. There are several things I routinely do to cause mild pain to myself. It's hard to explain, it kind of shoots through my whole nervous system and relaxes it. A sigh of relief type of relaxation. It's so calming to me.
