Tom Murray does a film about his family including his brother Chris. Now, I guess Tom could be classified as 'normal,' but he's really a pretty creative guy.

Chris Murray is autistic, and has a job at a hospital and a grocery store, and does artwork.

I saw the second half on a Showtime channel last week and I think it's scheduled to be re-broadcast Monday evening (and probably other nights as well). It shows what someone can do with a little bit of help (Chris was in a group living situation for about 5 years), and with acceptance.

To me it's sounds like 'Dad's in Heaven With Nixton' is how his mum described to Chris where his father went when he died. I dunno, just a guess.
It looks great. I'll keep an eye out for it. Always good to hear about artistic autistic artists. Oh gosh, say that five times fast.

Nixon was probably the greatest president of the last century that the US had - if you look at what he actually achieved. Probably had AS too, if you look closely he was quite the introvert.

How about you actually read a book about him and think for yourself? Richard Reeves's biography is very good...

And if you ever get to see Richard Reeves talking about the book on C-Span. Wow, I think it's spot on that RN had Asperger's (with all the usual qualifiers of an arm chair diagnosis of course)

Okay, Nixon made a significant step forward as far as peace with China.

Along with Russia, where he was the first president to enter the Kremlin, the Middle East and so forth. In fact he was loved in many parts of the world, one of the great ironies of his presidency. Not to mention some of the economic stuff he did, actually when you look into the way he ran his adminstration it was nothing short of mindblowingly brilliant. Which really led to his downfall, Johnson would have never been sank by a Watergate, despite his adminstration being corrupt.

Perhaps read some more rigourous books on the man, there are plenty and most are positive. Asides, he recorded every meeting he had pretty much in the White House so history could judge him.

I actually study politics academically and actually know my stuff. You on the other hand, don't seem to have a clue, or have any good argument against Nixon.

And I'm going to make the case that both Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan marched to their own drummer.

First Jimmy Carter . . .

In the run-up to the 1972 election, Carter, who was then governor of Georgia, met some of the democratic candidates running. And it hit him that they weren't particularly smarter than he was. Okay. Probably true. But it's interesting that he focused on this so much. For it's also, have you built up your team where you and your team members have reciprocated loyalty (Jody Powell, yes; but how many others?), do you have enough of a track record so that people can have confidence in you, do you have actual experience, including mistakes that you've made, so you can see interplay between theory and practice, etc.

And then when Jimmy was elected President in 1976 and took office Jan. 20, 1977, he seemed to think that because an idea was really smart or clearly the right thing to do, that people would automatically flock to it. In fact, that he could stand there and bask and people would ooh and ahh over how smart he was or how moral and upright. And things don't always work that way.
