Yeah, like some other people have said my most comfortable sleeping schedule is from around 2-10 or 3-11. If I have to wake up early I just don't get any sleep. It is misery. When I know I have to be up at a certain time it's even harder for me to fall asleep than usual.

It takes me forever and I hate it. Normally, I lay in bed for about an hour - if not two - trying to fall asleep, tired but unable to shut of my mind. And often times I wake up again and again, checking the clock and giving myself the allusion of not actually sleeping at all...

Someone above mentioned they sleep deeply. Yea, I don't at all. But I dream and I dream extremely vividly. I have multiple dreams which are unique and interesting, with dreams in which I'm not 'myself', but playing a character in a story. Which is one of the reasons I am able to lucid dream.

So, while it takes me ages to fall asleep, I love to be asleep and to dream. And that makes it all the more frustrating to not be able to fall asleep...

Around 1 am without fail. I could go to bed at five and not fall asleep until 1 am. I usually go to bed by 11pm now. I think I have delayed phase sleep syndrome. I've learnt to live with it.

It takes me anywhere from 30 mins to an hour and a half to fall asleep. If I didn't take my psych meds at night, I wouldn't sleep at all because my mind wouldn't stop racing.

I usually go to sleep when I am too exhausted to stay awake. This is partly due to difficulty with transitions, and partly due to the fact I don't always notice that I am tired until I am so exhausted my brain stops working properly, I lose whatever ability I have to communicate properly, and I can't focus on anything. This can be anywhere from 12 to 20 hours after I woke up.

Annoying.

Most nights it takes about an hour, if I'm really tired I might fall asleep faster, but other times like last night, it took almost 3...

I've always had a erratic sleep schedule, but after working nights for almost a year at my last job it's been really bad. It seems that my body wants to run on about a 28 hour day, which doesn't really mesh with most peoples... though, here recently I've settled in a somewhat regular pattern, sleeping from about 4-5am to about 12-1pm.

It takes me very little time to fall asleep. My problem is that I always want to sleep. I never want to get up. If I did not have to eat and earn a living, I would spend all of my time sleeping.

The only thing that keeps me up, is that once I start things, I hate to stop them. That is a good thing, because it would be very difficult to do anything otherwise.

I'm glad to read this thread and realize I'm not alone. It takes me 1 - 2 hours to fall asleep, and I wake up about twice during sleep, too. I always thought that's baaaaad and so inefficient. I guess it's not too unusual.

Like many my mind is usually full of thoughts. Usually as I drift off they become more weird and random. By the time they don't make any sense I'm getting close. I frequently jerk awake right after I fall asleep, wondering if I slept or not, then drift off to sleep again. I also dream a lot.

Since I waste time in bed, I have tried to control my thoughts and think of pleasant things, so at least it'd be enjoyable. Sometimes I manage that OK, sometimes I don't. It's important for me to avoid anything exciting or upsetting in the evenings. That makes watching any new movies a bit difficult, though.

Well the brighter side of this sleep problem is when you're in bed trying to sleep, you can't be snacking. So it's hard to get fat when you spent 10 - 11 hours in bed every night. :D

It takes me 15 to 20 minutes to fall asleep. I also get up in the middle of the night to use the toilet and than it takes me an hour to go back to sleep. You know the drill.

It depends. If I'm sleepy, I fall asleep quickly. If I'm not sleepy but for some reason need to go to sleep so that I can get up at a certain time, then I have a hard time falling asleep. The worst is if I'm doin something the next day that I'm really excited about and want to get plenty of sleep for. Then I almost always end up getting very little sleep.

OK, for those of you who frequently take an hour or more to fall asleep, are you getting enough sleep? Do you like stay in bed for 10 hours so you can hopefully get enough sleep? Or do you wake up tired and need to drink lots of coffee?

I average about 6.5 - 7 hours per night (even though I usually spend 9 hours in bed). Which is enough for me to function but not enough to feel well rested. My stomach can't tolerate coffee at all, so I'm often tired.

during the week I get maybe 5 - 6 hours of sleep, not nearly enough! I'm usually sluggish in the mornings. on weekends I get to sleep in, and can easily sleep in til noon, which gives me 8 - 10 hours sleep. I feel physically better with more sleep, but feel guilty about 'wasting' so much time that I could have used to do something productive.

I mostly just lie down for 10-30 minutes, get back up, go on computer for around 3 hours, then go back to sleep

I don't remember if I answered this post or not.

I refuse to take sleeping pills because I have kids and feel that I need to be easily awakened if they need me for anything or if my house is being compromised for any reason during the night. Right now, my husband is recovering from surgery and has limited mobility so I barely sleep because I need to keep an eye on him while he's sleeping to make sure he doesn't move inappropriately in his sleep and injure himself.

I have discovered that I can fall asleep (won't stay asleep, though) to the sound of running water. So I put my iPod on speakers by the bed and play an ocean thing I have. Very nice. My husband likes it, too. Without that, I will be awake until my body passes out.
