My boss had us all round her house on Saturday for games night. The last game involved us being split into two teams. Each member of the team took turns giving clues to their team mates until they could identify the named person (celebrity ect) on the card.

On our second turn - my boss decided that a silent sand timer was too boring and started to make beeping noises to indicate the passing of time.

I found this so annoying because I could not listen at all to what my team mate was saying - my boss' beeping noises were all I could hear. I was completely unable to force my focus onto my team mates speaking voice - the beeping filled my head.

As I do not know if I have Aspergers or not - could this be a possible indication that I have, or do beeping noises distract just about everybody despite their effort to block the sound out?

When people make beeping noises: irritating. Correct response: "shut the f up!"
When your boss makes beeping noises: hilarious! Correct response: grin and laugh.

You may have AS, but this isn't a sign of it. I bet you weren't the only one there fed up.

Thanks for your response =]
You say this isn't a sign of it (being aspie) but I just read on a sticky cartoon that background noise is a problem for aspies.

Lol - the fact that it was called 'games evening' was what attracted me. I'm inwardly about 11 years old I think =] though most 11 year olds are probably beyond games and more into making babies these days!! !! !! !! :-O

Sorry, I disagree.
I would have pointed out that that noise was really distracting to the game and suggest that they go back to the sand timer, if everyone else agreed.
Someone has to speak up, come on now.
Yes, I have AS but that is irrelevant to the fact that people shouldn't be so passive.

Yeah, but if the person making the noise is the one capeable of making your life a misery if you spoil their fun, sometimes it's better to grit your teeth and wait it out. It's not passive as much as picking your battles wisely.

There's no point making enemies higher up than you unless you have to (i.e for a more important reason than just a game).

I think I might have been more annoyed at myself for not being able to just block the stupid noise out and focus my attention where I wanted it to be.

If my boss wants to act like a big kid that's up to her - I just WISH she had been unable to achieve her goal!!
