I'm looking into SSDI or SSI myself, as the insurance my parents pay for is extremely expensive because of my Aspergers. I'm able to work, but since many employers don't offer insurance benefits, I'd be paying a stiff fee if I bought insurance myself, if they even accept me. The insurance I'm on now because it covered me previously, and in my state, there's a law that says that if you're already covered by one insurance company, that company can't deny you coverage because of any condition. Unfortunately, they charge you a fortune every month. Because of that, SSI or SSDI may be the best way for me to have decent health coverage. The insurance is the only reason I'm applying for the Social Security disability benefits as I'm perfectly capable of working and living on my own.
