I have blue hair so I'm sometimes asked if the drapes match the carpets. I know that they're asking about my hair down there. Instead I'll go off on a tangent about only having wood and laminate flooring in my house or blinds. Does anyone else take things literally on purpose like this?

No, but that's a great response, I love it!

That's a smart thing to do if you don't want guys to flirt with you.

Only if I make it obvious that I'm doing it on purpose. I'm not sure how I'd even respond to something like that.

I'm just not interested in guys. Even if I was I wouldn't want to date someone who talks dirty right away.

It's a smart response. It's understandable that you don't want dirty talk right away.

TBH I do this all the time with software licensing. Some people really are terrified by the prospect of just how much can be done free of charge.

I do this but for comic effect. The idea comes from Airplane!

Woman: "Oh no! There's a huge crash on I-5! I just heard about it on the radio."
Man: "What is it?"
Woman: "A radio? Oh, it's an electronic device with knobs and wires, but that's not important now."

(Hey, I never said I was Mel Brooks).

Haha I wouldn't have understood the 'drapes and carpets' thing, so yeah I would have taken that literally, and been utterly confused how we got onto the topic of home decor.

I don't do it purposely though. I just don't understand a lot of modern social references.

Omg, that was hilarious- I had no idea why you were suddenly talking about drapes and curtains, but that's hilarious! Oh what a great response.
I think I have been asked this and replied similarly but not knowing what was going on.
Oh god that's funny!!
Is that supposed to be ... like sexual or attractive or something?

It's basically a question guys like to ask girls who are blonde or have unnatural hair colors. The drapes are the hair and the carpet in your hair down there. I think it's an inappropriate question, so I just take it literally and talk about stuff I know will bore them.
