All my life I have needed a lot of sleep to feel normal. Like 10+ hours a day. If I don't sleep that much everyday I can barely function. I will be in a bad mood all day, and as soon as I get home, I'll go straight to sleep. How much do you sleep per day? And how can I reduce how much I need sleep?

I think this might be an autistic trait. Perhaps we need more sleep because we have to manually filter out crap and try harder to do things that most people do naturally.

Yeah, I need about 10hrs per night too. That's my optimal level. I usually have to get by on less, but 10 is about right for me.

I usually need more sleep than others, However it's hard to tell now that my sleep schedule is completely screwed up... I'm going to sleep at like 2:00 A.M. 8O and usually don't wake up 'till noon. Today is an exception, fell asleep at 3-4 A.M. and woke up at ~9 A.M. I may have forgotten my meds :? I so need to stop working late :P

EDIT: I figure if I keep sleeping and waking up later and later, eventually my sleeping will go all the way through the day and then back around to normal  but that could take a while... :hmph:

Depending on how much i exercise in a day i could sleep for 12 hours sometimes... otherwise about 9 hours is right for me... once i get to about 4 of sleep dept i find it really hard to think things out and co-ordinate my actions... like i might accidentally put the phone in the fridge and carry a carrot back to its charger...

On weekends, I go on sleep marathons, as I call them. I sleep at least 12 hours each night. Plus, I might take day naps. During the week, I still nap in the evening, but I sleep some 10 hours each night. And all that is not counting the mininaps, as I call them. I get these odd sleep attacks, that no matter how hard I try, I close my eyes and kind of 'black out' for a couple of minutes. There's no pattern to them, and oddly enough, no one notices, because the things I act normally when I have them. Like if I'm putting something away, I just keep doing it but I'm asleep. It's weird.

I need my 8 hours sleep every night yo properly function next day. If I do not sleep my 8 hours I am sleepy and get headaches. I could sleep more, but 8 hours is enough.

Lucky you. I'm a heavy insomniac.

I only seem to need 4-5 hours to run at tip-top shape though.

"Sleeping too much" sounds like a problem I wouldn't mind having. I get four hours every night, no exception, regardless of how tired I am.

I tend to need anything from 8-12 hours.
I have trouble sleeping anyway as my mind seems to choose bedtime to wake up and torment me, and I find beds uncomfortable anyway, against my body.
If I get little sleep, I get headaches, memory problems, mood problems and all sorts. I actually get very upset if I cannot sleep and have to be up at a certain time.

Ten hours a night is not too much sleep. I slept that much until my body clock changed sometime in my late 20s (now I only need 8 hours a night, but never less than that.) It's our screwed-up workaholic society that has people sleeping 6 hour nights and acting like it's some kind of virtue when in reality it makes people more prone to obesity, fuzzy cognition, and traffic accidents.

Is the actual problem how late you sleep into the morning? Staying up late at night seems to be a common Aspie trait, but going to bed earlier will allow you to get the rest you need without oversleeping your alarm.
