Autism and sensing emotions

This is a weird question, but does anyone else have the ability to sense emotions? I would be walking down the street, passing someone, and sense happiness, and I would be happy too for no reason of all. I would sense sadness in a person and cry for no reason. I would sense fear in a person and become scared myself. Does anyone else have these strange abilities?

Contrary to the AS diagnosis I've always been empathic. I'm extremely sensitive to the moods of others; they can color my world in ways I do not wish to experience.
