Alex's thread about the conference is going to become very unorganized. It was suggested that we begin breaking into teams. Team leaders will need to start forming new threads where their team can have a more specific discussion of their objectives.

I'm heading up the Creative Marketing, Content, and PR Team. I've already found some teammates but would welcome others.

Remember, there is a lot to do, and there will have to be many different teams. Ask yourself what you are truly good at and interested in and join up with the most appropriate team.

Alright CMCP Team, let's get this discussion going...

This is the kind of stuff I've been playing with so far...

AutWorld:
Autistic Minds Working Together to Create a Better World

I think this whole concept is especially beautiful and exciting because so many people seem to think that autistics are incapable of working together.

There are many things that I am utterly incapable of doing, and many things that I am very, very good at. However, in order to be successful, I rely on those who have strength in areas I do not.

As Temple Grandin said, "The world needs all kinds of minds." I'm not going to slave away trying to be good at something which I am not interested in. I will only fail miserably.

Autistics are VERY good at certain things, and not so hot at others. It is wonderful that we happen to all have different strengths and talents.

What are your talents, and how can we pull together to make all our talents compatible? There is strength in numbers! Let's work together, each doing what we love, to form a strong chain!

I think this should be the overall theme of the event - working together and utilizing our specific strengths to make up for out weaknesses.

The world needs all kinds of minds. Together we are strong; a vital component of human progress. Let's celebrate our vitality, and show the world that we are here for a reason. We are on the RIGHT planet!

Celebrate neurodiversity, and create a world with room enough for everyone.

---
What if the the commonly accepted social design,  with it's arbitrary laws and etiquette, imaginary lines drawn in the sand, and countless divisive ideologies, was simply... tossed out. What if we started from scratch, constructing a society with room enough for everyone, a society that did not exist to herd humanity like mindless cattle, but to celebrate and accommodate our wonderful diversity?

Many of you reading this are doubtlessly humming the tune of of John Lennon's "Imagine" and scoffing at my gum ball sweet optimism. Well, I've been called much worse than an idealist, and as far as I'm concerned, you cynics can go smoke behind the bleachers with the cool kids. How many social revolutions began with the words, "I don't have a dream..."?

I work in marketing and would be happy to help out with this. For example, if you create a website and need search engine optimization done to attract other people on the spectrum who might not check the message board regularly, I could definitely assist with that.

That would be wonderful. I'm not too technically savvy and get frustrated with technology easier.

Perhaps you would want to lead the formation of a technology team? We are going to need a lot of computer savvy people.

Right now we really need people to step up and begin taking on responsibilities and leadership roles.

I'm in.
I will help with deciding on contents and on schedule, and with contacting speakers/presenters/performers/exhibitors.
I will also help with preparing promotional materials and with contacting newspapers, magazines, TV and radio stations who can cover our event.

Hi, I can help with promotional design...logos, posters, etc.

Here are some samples of recent work that I'e done. Unfortunately I travel on my bike a lot and don't have the big posters to share, but this should give a rough idea of what I do.

I pm'ed this to tamborine man and he said "wow, get to work on a logo!" ;)

Grease Pit patch advert
silk screen on fabric
("busy & cluttered" style design, "rough" lettering)
Image

NSL Menu
Ink on paper (dip pen & brushes)
("clean" style design, "formal" lettering)
Image

ConNaughty Dog advert
Ink on paper (dip pen & brushes)
(good representation of how I use color)

Self Sustainable poster (work in progress)
master image for a screen print, spraypaint on acetate
carved with needlepoint stylus
(this is how I typically make the master art for screen prints)
Image

Corporate Ladder patch
Silk Screen on fabric
Image

JTBB lyric book / odd jobs advert
Ball point pen on ordinary printer paper
(example of "western" lettering)
Image

Output jack on High Plains Drifter
Acid etched brass & ink on wood
(indicative of "fingerprint" color field patterns, a personal favorite)
Image

Did we settle on AutWorld?

I was just trying to think of a visual symbol for neurodiversity. Not an easy task. I googled "diversity symbol" and came up with a bunch of images of multihued hands reaching up together.

So weird little me is thinking: a bunch of hands holding up multicolored brains underneath the conference title logo.

Or a heart shaped brain with a world map on it, possibly being held up by several hands, possibly to the left of conference title logo.

That is wonderful! I'm thinking a symbol of thought or consciousness may be better than a brain, but don't know what that would be. Perhaps a globe shaped brain? Ha ha.

Yeah, globe shaped brain was what I was talking about, except I thought it'd be more cute if it was also heart shaped. I can see it clearly in my head, give me a day to make a drawing of it, plz.

I think the name should somehow be inclusive to community members that are not on the spectrum, but who are working to advocate for neurodiversity and autism acceptance as well. Maybe something with united or unity?

Autism United? Hmm...sounds like a company...but something with the same idea? I'll keep thinking. Anyone else?

I like where you're going with this. I was thinking the same thing.
