Just got back from the AS specialist and he said that(I am not sure what he was referring to specifically)I had 4 out of 4 in the area that required 2 out of 4 and 4 out of 4 on the area that I needed 1 out of 4?Well,whatever he was talking about...he didnt seem to have any hesitation in his DX.
He said that 50% of his clients are aspie and that I can come talk to him about what I want to do with the DX.......Just wanted you all to know....I am not going to have to start every sentence here with

"I dont know if I am AS ,but am getting DX".....I have DX!! !!Now...to conquer the world(insert maniacal laugh here)

Well, welcome to the "diagnosed Aspie" club, I guess. It's nice to know for sure rather than second-guessing yourself all the time, isn't it?

Oh, and--your maniacal laugh needs work. It's getting there, but it needs work...

I don't know if I should congratulate you. All I can say, is that it does get better, with each passing day. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

I never understood about aspies getting all diagnosed and official. I've yet to run into a mental health professional who could diagnose that a person with a sore foot had a rock in their shoe.

Me old china

I'm happy to hear that your life is getting better, but I didn't know Routemasters could fit into tunnels.

Krex, it will be the Diagnostic Criteria for AS the doctor was was referring to. To be diagnosed as having AS, a person must meet the following:

A. Qualitative impairment in social interaction, as manifested by at least two of the following:
1. marked impairments in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression, body postures, and gestures to regulate social interaction
2. failure to develop peer relationships appropriate to developmental level
3. a lack of spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people (e.g. by a lack of showing, bringing, or pointing out objects of interest to other people)
4. lack of social or emotional reciprocity

B. Restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests, and activities, as manifested by at least one of the following:
1. encompassing preoccupation with one or more stereotyped and restricted patterns of interest that is abnormal either in intensity or focus.
2. apparently inflexible adherence to specific, nonfunctional routines or rituals
3. stereotyped and repetitive motor mannerisms (e.g., hand or finger flapping or twisting, or complex whole-body movements)
4. persistent preoccupation with parts of objects

You obviously met them with flying colors!

Congratulations, if that's the right word. :)

Thanks all for responding....Yeah....I don know if "congratulations" is exactly in order...I mean it isnt a DX of cancer but it isnt exactly the Nobel Peace Prize either. It is just good to be done with it...if I do anything positive with the info....well,thats up to me.Mostly,I just wanted some one to tell me that I
am not "crazy"....$80.00 in copays seems like a small price for that.Knowing that there are some people who have similar experiences, thought processes,obsessions,humor...ie...visiting this site...has actually been more helpful then the DX.....(Not that I relate to everyone here, but statistically relate on more things then I did with most of the people I have known.....so,I feel like an individual but not such a "freak")

Hovis....thanks a lot for the info....I have to say that I dont understand how he came up with the 4/4
because I know I told him no to a few things on that list...maybe he saw me doing things I was unaware I have been doing?

You're welcome. I think it's as you say: some of the criteria that relate more to thought processes would be easier for the patient themselves to give an answer to, whereas behavioral observations might be more accurate coming from someone else. It might be something that you either don't realize you do at all, or seems so normal to you that it would take an NT observer to say that it's actually quite 'abnormal'.
