I was in a small but crowded shop a few weeks ago, and all of a sudden a fart smell arose, the type what everybody smelt, and I know it was NOT me, everybody standing near me all seemed to be staring at me with disgusted expressions on their faces as though they were accusing me of doing it. I felt upset, and I walked out and I haven't been back since.

I was just wondering if I got blamed because I was giving off a guilty expression? I heard here that people with conditions like AS give off wrong impressions at the wrong times, and so I was wondering if that was why I was the one accused. When I first smelt it, I started to panic already before anyone else did, so being quick to react could make it look suspicious, especially being around lots of people because usually they start playing the blame game.

Also Aspies are sensitive to smells, which doesn't help. But I have a sinus problem which has made my smell sense weaker than average people, but I just reacted strongly because I got embarrassed of the smell (I am sensitive to embarrassment), but I knew that if I had just stayed calm and smelt it quietly, nobody would have suspected anything of me (even though it wasn't me anyway, which made me even more mad because I was driven out of the shop for something I hadn't even done).

Does anyone here get suspected and accused of making a smell?

It's a natural bodily function and both aspies and NTs do it. I dont understand why people make such a big deal about farting.
It happened to me at school many times. All the kids hated me for no reason and every fart was my fault. School is a prison.

Yeah, but if someone falsely accuses me of farting I'll say, "if it had been my fart, you wouldn't still be standing here sniffing it". It's funny how most people sniff in others' farts four or five times and then start blaming.

I once farted so loudly that it left the person with me lying there in shock as it was sudden too! I think I broke the sound barrier that day!

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

It was in the middle of a passionate evening in, but that was not exactly what I had in mind when I decided I wanted to try and 'Blow them away'.

Farts are funny!

haha. Well, if you notice a stinky fart in a crowded area (like a dance club), you know, er, for sure, that it's not the gorgeous woman with the tight skirt and bubble ass; let's face it, no horrible smell could come out of there. :lmao:

I find it completely humiliating! I don't get why people are so open about it nowadays. When I was a kid you couldn't even say the word fart because it was a swear word and your parents would flip out even though they said it all the time. :(
I hate the things that make us "human", I hate to be reminded that I'm human, and what other people might not think twice about doing at all in public (throwing up, going to the bathroom, making mistakes) has left me traumatized and phobic. :(

You probably got blamed because you are an easy target, and nobody wants to fess up to the crowd.

You should have just scrunched up your nose and said 'it wasn't me.' Or laughed and looked around. If you look nervous or guilty then you're an easy target.

Maybe you were just standing close to the impact zone. I imagine all the people around you to be wearing business suits or those types of hats the Queens wears.

I remember when I farted at school. We all just burst out laughing, even if I was a bit embarrassed.
It's just a regular bodily movement that happens to smell like ass.

You know what's a bit embarassing? Sharting at school. No fart smells more like ass than a shart!

Ugg, don't make me think about that.

I remember getting accused of farting as a kid when someone else did it. I do not know why it's something people get upset about or why they say it's rude to do it. You can't help it. I used to fart silently and then pretend I didn't do it.

I remember one time in 4th grade, a fart snucked out of me and this boy made a fuss about it and started to cover his nose with his shirt. Then I smelled popcorn and the boy said "Your farts smell like popcorn" and he took his shirt off his face. That was the only time I didn't feel bad about farting.

I remember once in second grade I was in special ed and I farted and I laughed about it and I had to stay after class when it was time to return to our normal classroom. I do not understand why that was a crime. Why punish someone for something they can't help? I wonder if I would have said "excuse me" things would have been different? Maybe I was punished for not excusing myself. I didn't even have the chance to say it anyway.

That's why I try to avoid food that would do that to me. Or be extra cautious if I feel something's not quite right in my lower gut. 8O

They do say that if you're the type of person who gets easily embarrassed and think that everybody's thinking it's you, then the more you will act like it's you. What I do is not react, but stand quietly and wait to see who is the first to react. Nobody would then suspect it is you then.
