I like to keep myself busy most of the time but just recently I have come to realising That even though I do things and join in with the rest of the world It's like it's not really me, it's just an illusion that I put out there but the real me is actually in another world playing games and stuff. I don't know how I've got away with it all these years.

I guess you could say that about me, yeah...my world has friendly anthro Cars in it. Does this world have them? Nnnnnope.

Nice topic, BTW!

Yup, I can identify with this. It sometimes happen when with couple of friends. If they start talking small talk or usual, everyday thing, I just shut myself off (not intentionally) and daze off. It happened at school, college and on work.
Funny though, when it happened on college, during classes - I discovered I wrote notes on lecture while I wasn't listening to professor at all. This thing, that world seems surreal, that is how I feel almost every time I go outside. I don't think it is derealisation, it's more like being in a soap bubble. You see everything but you're still divided by a thin membrane.
It is not surprising, because core element of ASD in, in my layman opinion, is not being fully connected to world around you (people included).

I'm a furry and a huge fan of Terry Pratchett/ general fantasy so yeah, that's pretty self explanatory I guess...

My parents have described me to others various times by saying, "It's like he's off in his own little world..."

Honestly, I'm shocked that nobody mentioned the A word until my mid-20s.

Yes.

Mind you, I have been diagnosed with ADHD but I really do live on my own planet and am too detached from reality, IMO.

I go through phases, I'm sometimes more in tuned with the "real world". Whenever I'm dealing with anything personal or very emotional I go very far into my own world.

I'd say I'm halfway in between my world and the real world the rest of the time.

Yes. Back when I was 12, I created a fantasy world. The intention was to create a computer RPG, but I became so involved with it (I spent every night for more than 2 years only writing about that world) that I would daydream about living in it (in fact, one of the characters was my counterpart in that world).

I still have not abandoned the idea, but I stopped daydreaming about it. Now I daydream about mundane things like my future and ways to change the world for better, with all of my subjects of interest thrown in. But, regardless of the subject, I will probably spend 80% of my whole life (while not sleeping) daydreaming.

Like Jory, I am still shocked no one in my family seems to realize I am not an average 21 years old man. The only time they ever tried to convince me to go to a psycologist was back when I was 16-18 years old, when I kept avoiding the outside world like it was the plague and had some meltdowns. After I got better, they seemed to think it was a phase that magically stopped.

But I am going off topic. Sorry.

It's very nice to know that there are others who created world like that. Mine was a combination of sf/fantasy...I was in that for months, wrote about it, made pictures, maps, characters. Played it out, tried to make others play it out and so on :D

I have my own too, working on it since I was able to coherently string a sentence together and, yes, it's always been a furry universe(with mythological roots I added later on). Glad to see that writing isn't that uncommon amongst aspies=D.

Mine was like that, too. It was a fantasy world, but its roots eventually became science fiction. I still have all the maps, drawings and notes. But I kept it a secret from everyone: that was the main reason I would only create at night (also helped by the fact that I could focus much better when the house was quiet). :D

It's not uncommon I think... There are variations and AS/NT are not the only variables that determine who we are. I had huge imagination since I was very little and I role played. Only thing that was problematic was that my roleplays were carried out in such a way that other had to follow my strict srcipted roles and had no part in creating anything. If they tried, I tried to stop them, if they insisted, I had meltdown.

Ditto, I have a steel lockbox under my bed with all the printed versions. Oh, and my world is a mix of contemporary earth with hints of magic/medieval (sort of a secret society, rooms in the back of stores and underground caverns and the like) rather than sci-fi.

I kept it secret as well, except with one friend, who was younger than me. I found a notebook recently and keep it my special place. No wonder though, I kept it a secret, others were all about going out and dates at the time I was writing it and I was like, magical swords AI :D

Off course they say that... we keep it a secret :)

I've had my own imaginary world (and imaginary life) ever since childhood. All of my favorite fictional characters live there, and I consider them to be my imaginary friends. Mostly we hang around in the cabin we share together, but sometimes we have to use superpowers and mechas and stuff to defend our world from villainous threats. I've always wanted to make a fanfiction or comic about my imaginary life, but it's such a deeply personal thing that I'd be devastated if anyone gave me negative feedback on it. So in my head it stays.

Ah! So someone else's imaginary world is stringing their favorite fictional characters together to battle otherworldly forces. I do this. All of my favorite characters come from anime or video games. There are mecha sometimes, though often conflicts involve fleets of space fighters.
