EDIT: THE OPTION THAT READS, "One parent Autistic, one parent NT, two or more Autistic children, no NT siblings." SHOULD READ, "One parent Autistic, one parent NT, one or more Autistic children, one or more NT siblings." You can use that one for this meaning, if you would. Thanks.

If you are a parent, I'm asking about your family, as in "You, your partner and your kids" (not your parents or siblings).

If you are NOT a parent, I'm asking about you, your siblings and your parents.

Obviously, if you have no kids, the poll isn't for you. (Sorry I can't put that many options in the poll. :( )

Also obvious: If your entire family is NT, there is no option there intentionally for that.

I'm curious about what the most common make up might be, even though I know these polls aren't all that accurate.

I'm not concerned whether there are diagnoses. If you are certain in your own mind as to family members or yourself being Autistic, that's good enough for purposes of this poll. If you only suspect a family member is on spectrum, but are not firmly convinced, please answer as if the person is NT. Thanks.

If you are a single parent, please answer for biological parent of your children.

If you are in a mixed family (with children from multiple relationships), please don't take offense by my asking that you don't answer this poll. It's not that I don't want to hear from you, it's just that setting up the poll to accurately reflect what I would need to know from you isn't possible. I would need a far more complex polling software for that. Thanks for understanding.

Whew! Now, hopefully I didn't screw up the options, otherwise this has been a huge waste of time. :P

You missed an option:

1 Autistic Parent, 1 NT Parent, 1 Autistic child, 1 NT Child

Just so you know :D

Dammit!

Yeah, I screwed up one of them. Just added an edit to the OP to substitute what I meant to use there. Wish we could edit these things after they've been posted, as long as nobody has voted.

Yeah, I screwed up one of them.

That would be mine too:
father : autistic (not diagnosed, but very likely Aspergers)
mother : nt
me : autistic
brother : nt

See the edit in the OP. There's an option there you can use, I just can't edit the poll option now. Just substitute the new definition I gave it. thanks

You seem to have overlooked the fact that not everyone who 'not NT' is immediately on the Autism Spectrum.

Father: Non-NT, Bipolar Disorder with Schizophrenic Tendencies
Mother: NT
Siblings: One Autistic brother, others NT
Children: N/A

Just label the nonautistic as NTs, that's why the word was created.

But if the poll is an attempt to get an idea of the family makeup of people with Asperger's or Autism, or just of the people who post on this forum, then saying that my Father is NT is mis-representative. He is not Neurologically Typical.

I'm pretty sure he is just trying to compare autistic and nonautistic, the term NT should not be taken literally.

I decided to settle on "NT parents, two or more aspie children, one or more NT children" based on your explanation on how to assign people, but that might not be the most accurate description.

Hmm let's see.

One parent autistic (undiagnosed)

One parent ADHD (undiagnosed but the most obvious case in the world)

One child diagnosed autistic and ADHD.

Three siblings NT, one most likely to be ADHD hyperactive.

One half sister likely to be autistic. Her 3 siblings NT but have ASD/ADHD traits.

That's tough since I am older (46) and they rarely diagnose older adults my parents' age. My brother and I (both on the spectrum) suspect our dad had AS (deceased) and maybe a touch in our mom but not sure.

But to make it simple, all males and some females throughout three generations are ADD/ ADHD/ AS/ PDD-NOS (most are diagnosed).

Neither of my parents with ASD, but my mother, her mom, and her mom all displayed ASD traits

Me - Asperger's (initial diagnosis/referred)
My son - medium functioning autism (diagnosed)
My son's mom - NT
My son's half brother - NT
Distant cousin - Asperger's (diagnosed)
