Do you, when you are just undergoing a phase of having a special interest, write about the object of your interest on WP? Or do you keep it to yourself? I mean, do you make threads on this/participate in other threads posted on it, which you join/just mention your interest randomly in other threads, just stating the fact you have it, or is it maybe like that you don't share this with anyone and no one knows you just got a new interest?

Find a forum that specialises in your obsession.

Yep, all of that....I don't really talk to anyone about my special interests IRL, and WP is a great place to talk about them with other people who understand what it's like having special interests. :D

Since I'm into the Cars movies (and Cars in general) I'm also on a Cars forum, as well. :D

I post things about my special interests all the time. It's a free world and if people don't like my posts, they don't have to read them.

Post the odd thing in Random/Random about my interest.

Don't really feel like making specific threads about such, as it'd promote too much talking. :)

I tell everyone! I tell the cashiers at the convenience stores, I tell my family (to their dismay) I tell my friends, and I do occasionally post threads here. Like this one:

Yes, I do. My current special interest is Indonesia, and while I try to consciously dial it down in my posts, it's still kind of ever-present in them. But I won't bring it up in threads that have nothing to do with it. I won't suddenly start talking about gamelan or wayang theatre in a thread that's about comic books, for example.

They do get mentioned in various posts I make. My lifelong SI has been automobiles and while it has become toned down over the years, it still permeates my life. Working on my vehicles is actually one of the few things in this world that can make me feel at peace when my life is in turmoil. It stops me from thinking about the negative because it forces my mind into problem solving mode so I concentrate on mechanical problems instead. After all, rebuilding a front suspension is a far easier thing to understand than human emotions. It has logical steps to follow and a guaranteed result when you finish those steps. People though are illogical and there is no telling what they will do.

So...umm... Oh yeah we were talking about WP threads in relation to SI's! I have thought about posting threads regarding my interests, but figured no one would really care. After all, it doesn't seem like a popular topic on there and the few threads I have posted garnered few responses. It's probably because I am not popular here or because what I post is not interesting to others. I still enjoy learning and trying to sort out the problems of others though and that's why I stay.
