I have read in a few places that older parents may have a higher risk of having autistic children. How accurate do you guys/gals think this is? Personally my mom was in her early thirties when I was conceived as was my dad.

My mom was 32 when she had me (I'm un dxed but suspect I have AS). I was 29 when I had my daughter (who IS dxed AS). My grandmother was 45 (yes, you read that right 45) when she had my mom. My mom may have had it, but really hard to know, shes been dead for 8 years. She and I certainly had a lot in common.

Both my parents were very young. My mom was 22 and my dad was 24.

My parents were 31 and 35 when thy had me. They had my brothers too when they were older and neither of them have AS. My youngest has very few traits. It was with good sense of smell and taste and difficulty with transition to change. He has had difficulty with friends too.

My mum were 18, and my dad 21, when they had me. And i'm dx'd AS. Several persons in my dad's family might have had AS/ASD, as several traits have been evident... Age? I rather think of dna...

My mom was 32, my dad was 34. I'm not sure how old my dad's parents were, but my dad is definitely NT. My mom's mother was 28 when she had her, and my mom shows signs of asperger's, though she's undiagnosed.

My parents were in their mid thirties when they had me, as well as my younger brother (who has never been diagnosed with AS but has several traits).

My mum was 28 and my dad was 25 when I was born. I'm borderline AS/HFA.

I agree that genetics play a role, too. I think there are several variables that come together to form the disorder.

I thought Down's Syndrome was the risk when having older parents.

My mum was 26 and my dad was 28. About average really.

My parents were in their early 30s, I think. (I can't remember birthdates.)

I was 30 when my son was born and my husband was 32. My cousin was also 30 and her husband was around 45 (their son is somewhere on the spectrum)
