Im generally OKwith reading body language unless I'm anxious
I have a feeling that this is common in NTs who suffer with social anxiety or are prone to stress from being under a lot of pressure. I'm generally OK with recognising body language, it isn't that hard, and the knowledge of it just comes to me naturally, and I'm also good with recognising people's moods, et cetera. But one reason why I don't want to deal with the public is because of the stress of selling things to the ''wrong'' people; people who are having a bad day or are in a rush or are just not in the mood. Normally I would recognise if somebody's not in the mood, but because working with customers would make me feel anxious anyway, and I would feel that I'm under pressure to interact with customers, and have the obligation to advertise or sell things to them, I would probably miss the person's body language and start saying, ''would you be interested in purchasing X and Y?'', and I'd end up making a lot of people huff and puff and get annoyed with me. It happened at a charity shop where I used to volunteer, where I had to ask every customer about ''care cards'' (some sort of scheme the charity did), and then have to explain in detail what the care cards were for and why they done them and so on, and the manager made me do it and told me off if I didn't do it, no matter how hard I tried to explain that I am rather socially awkward and don't want to be in a position where I'm left alone to interact with customers (I got on better doing tasks upstairs in the store room with other colleagues, like I said, I'm less anxious when doing something I enjoy, and so I can read body language and intentions and other non-verbal things like that with other people).
Does anyone else find you can interact or read people easier when comfortable and not under a lot of pressure? Well, even if I was under a lot of pressure in a store room, I think I would still be able to instinctively read body language and all of that, because interacting with customers is just something I find the most daunting.
