Doctors called it 'Developmental Delay' all through my childhood when pressed hard enough for a label.

'Spastic Diplegia' was mentioned as part of it once. (I may have spelled it wrong. It has to do it with why I need supports in my shoes and stuff).

I kinda had 'Asperger's Disorder' for a few years. The guy who said he was 90% sure I had it wasn't qualified to diagnosis me only to test me for it. and he didn't want to give me a diagnosis. He did however sign papers so I could get assistance at the local junior college and put 'Asperger's Disorder' on that.

Just last year I got diagnosed for real and that just missed the AS diagnosis and was sorted under PDD-NOS instead. I didn't much like that at first, but now I don't mind it as much, especially since it's all going to be the same label in a while after the DSM V takes effect, though I still plan on using the same terms like 'Aspie' and 'Spectrumite' for myself not matter what my medical records say, though the latter may be easier to explain if used around other people.

I was also diagnosed with Asthma and Cerebral Palsy as a child(a very mild form of it so it seems, though I can't be sure what of my mental issues could be from that VS ASD, but I doubt I'll ever know what is from which thing and what is just me 100% and that's ok.)

Took 3 ink blot tests a year through elementary school. Told them what I thought they wanted to hear. So far the only thing I have been labled as is felon. 2 people were attacking my brother I delt with the stronger one put the boots to him untill he stopped he got 9 staples in his head. According to the cop I was sober but incomprehencible???? (sorry about my spelling :( ) It sux that people don't understand you when you are saying simplistic things to them.

I was almost diagnosed with Schizoid Personality Disorder, but the shrink went with Aspergers.

Anxiety and depression were the only diagnoses I was given before AS (and a very brief psychotic episode when I was a teenager). I had been seeing doctors, therapists etc for roughly 16 years on and off and not once did anybody figure there was anything going on other than anxiety and depression . It probably would have stayed that way if I had not read about AS and thought "omg that's me!". From that point I went straight to the doctor with a big list of my reasons and specifically asked to be referred to someone who could diagnose ASDs.

You'd think after 16 years some medical professional might have figured that there was more to it than just anxiety and depression but I suppose it demonstrates that many medical professionals don't really understand the presentation of AS; they seem to think that if you are well spoken, eloquent and can converse relatively "normally" then you can't possibly have an ASD. Do these people not realise that some of us can be, at times, VERY good at maintaining a façade and that the ability to display such a façade is in no way an indication as to the level of difficulty that we are experiencing? One psychiatrist in particular really hacked me off, even to me as an aspie I could tell from his body language and facial expressions that he had made up his mind about me within 5 minutes - he diagnosed me with "mild anxiety and depression". I think he thought I was exaggerating things to try to get out of working; the contempt coming from him was palpable even to me. What a horrible man he was. I'm really tempted to write him an anonymous letter to tell him what an unprofessional s**t he is. In stark contrast the psychiatrist who diagnosed me with AS was a specialist in learning disabilities, was incredibly sympathetic and receptive, and I could tell that he was convinced I had AS within an hour or so of meeting me - he didn't say as much, I suppose so as not to compromise the interviews etc, but even to me it was clear.

I don't have an official Aspergers diagnoses because most of the docs/psychs & so-called experts thought I communicated too well verbally & seemed too intelligent to have anything on the autism spectrum even thou I'm pretty sure I have Aspergers because I have most of the other Aspie stuff so I got a bunch of diagnoses to explain things instead.

I've been diagnosed with Dyslexia & ADHD sense Kindergarten.
I had a mental breakdown when I was 20 after my 1st relationship ended & I was suffering from a sever depression that I think was psychotc so I was diagnosed with depression that I'm over now. I was diagnosed Schizoid Personality instead of AS. I'm also diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Personality which I think was also the Aspergers. I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality which I think was due to the emotional issues I had then that were partly related to me being immature for my age due to my Aspergers; think of a 13year-old EMO kid who cut himself after his 1st girlfriend broke up with him but the kid wouldn't be diagnosed with Borderline because he could outgrow it as he matures & I outgrew it too. I'm diagnosed with OCD, Generalized Anxiety & Panic Disorder & I'm on medication for those. I got Post Traumatic Stress because I was bullied as a kid & they thought some sensory issues I had were really an emotional reaction from being bullied.

Zero. No official diagnosis prior to the ASD diagnosis.

I was kept away from psychologists and psychiatrists until I became a legal adult. I am all for optimism but I sincerely doubt that professional would have figured "oh, this kid has autism/AS" on their own, especially not throughout 1992 to 2004 when my mom was told to have me see one. They didn't even figure out that I am gifted so I got no hopes for an average child psychiatrist in this area having noticed my autism in the 90s.

The school counsellors that took a look at me at request of teachers just thought I had a fullblown case of child-of-single-parent disturbance (definitely not) and was, as part of it, greedy for attention and that I had a low general intelligence that affected my comprehension and that my family helped me do my homework (never happened ever).

By visiting another shrink or doctor? About 14. Most of them were my parents trying to figure out what Aspergers was.

I haven't been officially Dx'ed with "Asperger Syndrome", because I'm fed up with that whole system.

But, I have been misdiagnosed as having OCD, ADHD, Social anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, avoidant personality disorder, major depression, dysthymia pretty much everything that wasn't the issue. I have also been given titles like "anit-social" AKA psychopath.

I have been placed on many meds too, Not fun. Thank god I'm off all that crap and my brain chemistry is back to what I perceived to be normal, granite I still have issues, but I have learned how to cope.

And to make matter worse, my parent didn't have a clue as to what any of this is; she always just figured I was a very difficult child, which I was I have to admit. I Pretty much dealt with this ALL on my own, but I think that was no mistake to make me Stronger person and oh boy did it.

My parents took me to the psychiatrist when I was 13 because I was becoming incredibly difficult and depressed. The first psychiatrist threw drugs at me to see if anything worked. I ended up with severe rage attacks, so then he told us I was a spoiled brat 8O my dad surprisingly did not punch him. (funny thing, my brother in law had him as a teenager too, and they almost punched him too!)
The second one I got said I had ADD, OCD, anxiety and depression. They later took the ADD off, even though I doubt it's gone. I've just learned to adapt.

Two diagnoses.
The first at age 6, ADHD-C and AS.
The second at age 12-13, ADHD-C and AS, with "possible OCD and ODD".
I don't know for sure yet, but there's a possibility I'll be re-evalutated this year, or the next year.
