Yes, its finally confirmed now that I do have Aspergers. I got my diagnoses papers that said what I had and they had written Aspergers on it and some other things. Their were a couple of papers. Me and my mother couldn't hardly read their hand writing. I was able to make out Aspergers though and some other things, but we're still gonna have to get them to do it over again. So, that we can clearly read what they said about me. I just don't know why they scribble like that! Don't they know its not gonna be readable?! Anyway so then they got a copy of those same papers faxed to my doctor as well (If he'll even be able to read that chicken stratch...) My doctor doesn't seem to really understand anything about me or my conditions like this. Instead he just gets mad at me for messing up when talking, acting like it should be so easy for me, or when my mom tries to help talk for me when I don't know what to say. He makes her be quiet. Don't you agree that he shouldn't do that to me? It just makes me so nervous every time I have to go see him, cause he just doesn't understand me at all and he even thinks I can work, but I still feel like as of now that would be impossible for me and he doesn't understand. Thats really why we needed to confirm and get all of this information to get him to understand things better. So, yeah I really hope this works. It just really upsets me about him so much.

That doesn't make sense
My neurologists never do that, and the lady that conducted my screening was so very nice.
You need a person that is not just going to label you but to explain this to you.
You need to understand who you really are so that you can navigate this life correctly.

Ask them to explain their diagnosis!

I suggest also getting a typed report explaining their findings, which will be more legible and complete than a handwritten sheet that simply lists diagnoses on it.

Then I suggest seeing if there's a more knowledgeable doctor in your area.

I'm glad you got an answer, at least, but I'm sorry it's been presented so ineffectively.

I don't see a neurologist and they haven't even given me a screening yet. Is that required to really know if I have Aspergers/Autism? And what do they do on a screening? How does that go anyway?
Okay, so I had a nervous break down back in October of 2011 because I was so depressed and worried about myself, wondering what was wrong with me and past and future thoughts, wondering what was ever going to become of me since I have such a hard time talking to people and it was all really pressuring my mind so much at the time. So, I went to the emergency room and got myself admitted into the hospital back then and then they took me to this other place, from the hospital the next day. They took me to some kind of psych ward. I even hate to say I was in a place like that, but I felt really messed up at the time and was so very depressed and there was nothing else I could do. I couldn't afford going to a really good kind of doctor or clinic for it. So, yeah and then they kept me in their for 5 days and talked to me. They were really rude and treated me like I was stupid, insane and ret*d up their and when I'm not...which really got on my nerves and only made me feel even worse. Anyway so then after that they wrote me up some papers and stuff about me when I left and I didn't even get it until now. The same day I posted this post about it. Now the other doctor I was mentioning hes just my normal doctor that I go to for check ups for anything, but I just see him when I'm like really sick or need some medicine. So, hes the one whos being too hard on me and not understanding about how I have difficulties with speaking.

Yeah, I got several papers about everything in the mail, but it was just all in scribbly cursive like writing and I'm like what the heck? And like couldn't they make it any clearer? I mean how do they honestly expect me to be able to read that?

Most of those doctors did seem stupid and not as knowledgeable as they should've been. So, hopefully they understood what they were diagnosing me with and everything they were saying, but I'll just go with what they said and when they can even make me up a better copy of those papers again.

Okay. This all came to you in a rather confusing manner, under stressful and painful conditions. I think you might need to see if you can find more specialized care. I was diagnosed by a psychologist, not a neurologist. I went to Easter Seals, because they took my Medicaid. My first assessment was accidentally done by the wrong person, so it didn't go well. But they corrected the mistake and gave me a new assessment by someone qualified. That turned up the correct diagnosis. I now have a therapist there who specializes in Asperger's, and things are going very well so far. If there's an Easter Seals branch in your area, see if they'll help you. Explain your financial situation if you don't have Medicaid or other insurance. They may be able to work something out with you. Although I was very unhappy with my first experience, it's far more important to me to know it was accidental and that they corrected it without any further trouble. I don't anticipate your having the same problem, as this was very unusual for that organization, I think.

If Easter Seals can't help you for some reason, they may be able to tell you who can, and then they may be able to assist you in getting hooked up with the right service. Remember, you've got support around here, at Wrong Planet. Be sure to post here to let us know how it goes. I'm following this thread now, so I'll be relieved to get word from you if things start looking better. Good luck!

Whats the different between a psychologist and neurologist anyway? Easter seals? Whats that? I thought I've heard of it before, but, I really don't know what they could do and yeah I got Medicaid. I didn't have it back then at the other time though when I had to be at that other place. I have it now since that place told them how bad off I was. At least they were able to help me get that, but if only they were better at their writing and didn't send me such scribbled up papers like that. I hope they'll send us some better ones.

Okay, and thank you.

What is your new therapist doing for you that makes things good now for you? What is the program that he or she has you on? How often do you see your therapist? Is your therapist a psychiatrist or a psychologist... or a different specialist?

I have a psychologist who's working with me on self acceptance and determining how to identify and approach my Asperger's related struggles in everyday life. We're in the initial phase of this, so she's mostly information gathering at this point. But I can tell you her reputation seems well deserved so far. Just having someone supportive to talk to seems to be helping. It's especially nice to have the sense of being believed when I tell the truth, not dismissed and doubted.

Here's the Web address for Easter Seals:

I get the impression that quality of services and attitude can vary somewhat, depending on area, but try to check it out where you live to see if it's good there.

Ah sheesh, I'd definitely try to switch doctors as soon as possible (I know that might be unreasonable if you live in a small town or whatnot but sounds worth the try). If my doctor, dentist, psychologist or anyone gave me any grief at all, I'd immediately switch to someone else...it's just not worth the stress having to deal with people who don't 'get' you, I mean, I'm sure we've already spent our whole lives up until now dealing with it from everyone else. Your stay in the psych ward sounds incredibly stressful...I don't know where people get off on being cruel to patients. I'm glad that was over a year ago now and hope you're feeling a little better.
