Hello,

does anyone know how long it could take a psychologist to determine whether an adult is on the spectrum or not?

many thanks for any help with this question - I thought it would have been obvious after a few hours
but I've been told the psychologists need a month to respond after my assessment - is this usual?

:(

Well I have only my direct experience to tell you

This was not my experience. But the DSM revisions are to get Diagnosis down..........they are not keen to make diagnosis anymore imo

Though i refer more to AS than ASD with that statement

Mine took a combined total of roughly 10 hours of testing spanning across multiple appointments confined to roughly a month.

I was diagnosed last November. This was my experience. He diagnosed me anyways but he was hesitant, which surprised me because he interviewed my parents and they had said things that I never knew about that sealed the deal; I was definitely on the spectrum.

thanks that's really helpful

I had an assessment but I had no idea during the
assessment whether they thought I was on the spectrum or not . . . .

so now I'm left wondering . . . .
and waiting . . . . for a month until the follow-up appointment
with no clue what I'm going to get told

not so good for my mind :0(
thanks for your really quick replies !

It took about 6 months from being referred to get an appointment with the specialist, then the appointment itself was a couple of hours long and I was told the results straight afterwards.

Two appointments and about 6 hours.

Of course, the real obstacle is coming to terms with the idea that a lot of people seem to think that the autistic spectrum is a load of B.S. Its overemphasis by mommy bloggers who feed their children raw/organic/gluten and dairy-free fufu diets and yak about their 86 chemical intolerances doesn't seem to help much.
