I'm wondering if anyone else experiences this taste/sensation on the tongue.

It's kind of metallic, kind of salty taste even when I'm not eating anything. It's pretty much ever-present. I could also describe it as a bit numbish kind of sensation or healing-after-burning feeling on the tongue. The appearance of the tongue is just normal. My doctor saw it and said nothing seemed wrong.

While I don't think it's anything serious, it interferes with taste. I can't fully enjoy some subtle tastes such as good espresso coffee because of this.

I tend to associate this condition with stress. I seem to have developed it while enduring a lot of mental stress . Now I'm conditioned to also feel stressed when I feel/taste this (reverse). I actually don't know what really is causing this.

Does anyone experience this? Do you know what causes it? Do you know how I can get rid of it?

I get weird tastes and or smells that seem to accompany periods of stress. Might be a brain chemical hormonal thing.

I have a vague memory of zinc deficiency causing this.
If you havent been near heavy metals and aren't on any drugs that can alter taste, maybe try zinc supplements.

Amongst other things, a lot of medications can cause this. Are you on any? I also get this with certain flavourings and sweeteners. The other thing that causes this with me is too much caffeine.

No, I have never smoked. I even avoid being near smokers. Does yours happen with stress?

Have you ever tried anything to stop it? Or it wasn't serious enough for you to worry about?

OK, I never thought about zinc. I might look into it. How does this relate to heavy metals? I'm asking because I might be exposed to slightly higher-than-normal lead (Pb). Although I was told it's not high enough to affect health, it could be affecting me in a minor way. So what you mean is if it's simple zinc deficiecy, then zinc supplements can help? Thanks for the information.

I'm not on any medications or illegal drugs (never tried illegal ones). If anything, I realize I've been using iodized table salt until very recently.

I do drink a lot of coffee, but I'd been having a lot of coffee long before I developed this condition. Coffee is one of my daily joys of life, but because of this condition, I can't now taste what I used to enjoy so much.

I still seem to blame my stress for this. I have this taste/sensation most intensely when I'm in mental distress, which is most of the time recently. I had a blood test (not particularly for this) recently and the doctor told me I'm pretty healthy physically.

Maybe, I attributed it to smoking. I started up a little again lately, but quit again... don't taste anything right now.

I've had that taste on my tongue before, only it usually happens when I'm dreaming about this one swimming pool that I used to go to when I was little. It's a disgusting metallic taste --not so salty, though. Ick.
