** What does it mean to be an "NT" (nuerotypical)?

** Is it considered bad to be "NT"?

** How do Aspies differ from "NT"s?

(Please bear with me here...I've never heard this term before!) :o

NT REALLY means mentally undifferentiated from the average person.

It isn't necessarily bad to be NT. It is just that many don't accept people that fail to follow a given pattern. Since AS people don't follow that pattern, they may say bad things about NTs.

Aspies tend to show emotion differently, not get non verbal language, understand some language differently, use larger words and talk less about items outside of interests, have obsessive interests, etc...

As MONK says about his ailment.... "It is a blessing.....and a curse.".

Pretty much, NT and AS folk translate non-verbal communication/stimumi differently, both input and output :)

NTs are very much instinctual creatures, and do a lot of things subconsciously. That is, compared to AS. As a result they may display behaviour that is just downright nasty at times without even realising they're being bastards  Also means that in many there's a tendency to be shallow...

If an NT is aware that there are people out there that are 'different' (what a loaded word that is), they are capable of being completely understanding and working with it. If they've got their heads in the sand, the likely reaction to anything they percieve as different won't be so positive. An example of the former... me :) Unlike many, I don't find it so impossible to...you know...stop and THINK about someone else for a moment...

So in the long run...it's not necessarily BAD to be an NT I don't think...but seriously, the general population could use some education! (Seems you guys have an intelligence advantage though...d'oh :?)

I see...

I've known a few close friends who have ADHD but not autism -- is that considered NT??

I don't understand why many aspies in the W.P. forums are "putting down" NT'ers... **sigh**

I'm an aspie, but I'm totally understanding of those who may be NT!!

Well no, I don't think ADHD would be considered neurotypical :? (Come to think of it, I'm such a farking oddball I could hardly be considered TYPICAL of any sense, let alone in the wiring department...)

I think a lot of Aspies put down NTers because they're used to being given a hard time. REALLY farking hard time. The average person can be pretty relentless in their brutality to someone they've chosen to hate on... the only thing is, not all NTs are like this, there are a few of us that actually have a heart. Lol.

As for being totally understanding...man, if only 99% of the planet could take a page out of your book! :D We'd be a much more happy, peaceful world.

Really, no one should really give a damn how anyone's wired...we're all human, we're all in this together, and it's our differences that make things interesting. Try telling that to Joe Bloggs though :x

I really do fail to see the difference between AT and NT. Those who are noted as NT I usually see as having something seriously wrong with their minds(I think everyone's just a little bit of crazy), while most of the autistic folks I've come across have been easy to understand and more developed mentally. I know for certain my brain isn't wired completely "normally"-- or at least functions differently. Not that I have anything in any direction, but I know there are things I can perceive that others cannot.

...Though I do seem to live in a rather crazy section of L.A.

LOL. Well that's the crux of it, ain't it? Most people that could possibly be considered 'normal' are pretty out of it. Everyone has something very, very strange about them, no matter what - unless they're horrendously boring people. Even they tend to have issues from leading such boring lives, lol.
