she was nice.i dont think she believes i have AS :?
but i havent really told her much yet so perhaps when i open up more she'll see.

anything in particular i should mention to her? when she was asking me questions i got nervous and my mind went blank.pretty much every answer was a terrified mumble

I had the same experience when first seeing a doctor for what turned out to be AS...was so nervous that I couldn't say a thing actually, and only spoke a few words during hte entire meeting. The second appt went better.

Anyway, if you think of problems/quesitons you want to discuss with her between now and the next meeting, can you write them down? Then you can take your notes to the meeting and read from them if you can't remember what you wanted to tell her.

Three thoughts:

1. It takes time.
2. Don't be so interested in being diagnosed with AS. Instead get diagnosed with what you have, be it AS or something else. And you'll still be welcome here no matter what you do or don't have. No big deal.
3. Co-morbids may interfere.

If the psychologist is not experienced in AS, it's not a good idea to hope she will see it in you. I saw a couple of very qualified psychologists, but they were unfamiliar with AS and completely missed it in me. An AS specialist is your best bet if you want a diagnosis or to rule it out.

I'd start a list of AS symptoms that you have starting from birth. List the things that you find difficult, or have found difficult, what's different about you, what problems that you're having... ect.. Enlist the help of relatives, or very close friends that can help provide info that you may not know, or haven't noticed. Like you, my mind goes blank when I'm trying to talk to people, especially if they're asking random questions.

It can be difficult to detect AS in the presence of social anxiety disorder--or for that matter, to tell the two apart.

I usually write things down I want to make sure I talk about and then bring the notes right in with me. Kind of strange but I go blank easily also.
