Sometimes when im reading, the spaces between the words—the "white"—illuminates and I just focus on the whites. Anyone experience this? I'm thinking it's apophenia. It's extremely distracting.

This may be because of scotopic sensitivity (Mears Irlen syndrome). It makes white glare and other colours and you can get night-blindness too. I have it. I find reading on a background colour other than white easier. You can get overlay things and special lenses in your glasses if you wear them that help. Certain opticians will have the equipment to test for it but not all.
