I love cats. I observe that most aspies love cats. Why? Do they prefer cats to other animals? I venture some answer. Cats are reserved they don’t pretend that kind of physical effusions that dogs do. They like to be cuddled, but are not invasive. Cats are much wilder than dogs, even savage at times, and wildness, like nature in general is what attracts us. Not only cats, but birds, and trees and cacti in their infinite variety. As for flowers, for example I don’like much cultivated flowers, like roses, tulips, orchids, while I can stay hours to contemplate that huge number of different little flowers that grow in a little patch at high altitudes in the Alps.

Are you aware of the book, "All Cats have Aspergers Syndrome"?

I don't own a cat because my mother is allergic. Everytime I see a friendly cat: I pet it and it makes me feel comfortable.

I never liked cats until I got one in 2002. Now I love cats. They used to intimidate me (an 8lb animal intimidating a full size human) but now I love them. Wish I still had mine (left him with the X when I moved out).

Hairless cats are hypo-allergic. Also a biotech company has developed a hypo-allergic cat.

They are incredibly expensive. I am going to get one of those prescription antihistamines as soon as I move into a place that lets me have a cat.

Hairless cats can be a lot of work, they aren't very pretty, and they are a special breed which means they are also expensive.

I love all animals. I'm allergic to cats and dogs, well not my dogs. My dogs don't shed or have dander. I have 3 Portuguese Water Dogs.

Just over three years ago, (before the diagnosis of AS) I followed the suggestion, from work colleagues, of getting a cat. They thought it would be a way of getting more affection in to my life (both ways, giving and receiving).

It didn't work. Tiny appeared quite happy... would purr, sleep, seemed to like being stroked.

But for me the duty of care was much more present than any upwelling of affection.
It was very much "look after tha cat" rather than "love the cat"

And I already know I can do committment, concern, care... In that sense, at least.
Doing "love" in the emotional sense, I've never really found the key to that.

(Tiny went to a home where she was more appreciated)

I like cats, but I'm more of a dog person. I feel like a dog offers more of a mutual interaction, understanding the commands and all. My favorite breed of a dog is a Chocolate Lab, and my favorite breed of a cat is Domestic Shorthair.

Cats are easier to care for. You don't have to bath them, wlak them and take them out to go.

I have a cat who is 11 and I keep outside frequently because she will go in the house. I let her in still but only for a few hours and then I put her out. I had to put the litter box outside because it was stinking and I don't know what I did with the new kitty litter. Then I tripped on it and it busted so the litter as all over the place on my front porch. Now I have a mess to clean up.

I have two other dogs but one is big and one is small. I don't have to wlak them luckily because I live on a farm so they have room to run around but when I move to a city I'm gonna have to walk them which is what i do because it's good excercise. Or I might have to get rid of them if I find living in an apartment is tough work because I hate to leave them home alone all day when I'm at work and taking them out all the time so they can go might be a hassle for me too but I'm going to see.

I love my cat, but I'm definitely more of a dog person - I have always preferred dogs to other animals because of the way that they are so forgiving and willing to sit with me for ages on end. Cats are often more aloof, and that doesn't always go well when I want to hold them (the cat we had that died last year loved to be held and tickled under her chin, but the one we've got left is a bit more picky about such things).
