"Tell me why you want to be blind.
I don't want to be normal like you."

Everclear, "Normal Like You"

"Lonely Atmosphere" as performed by The Lemon Pipers
Go to Youtube, look it up, and give it a listen.
Please tell me what you think of this one.
Here are the lyrics:

When the day is over and I'm going home
I know I'm going to spend another night alone
And when I get to the door and turn the key
Just an empty room is waiting there for me

Noisy neighbors on my floor don't say "hello"
They don't care about me, they don't want to know
There's no one to talk to and nothing to do
Tell me, have you ever been inside a lonely room

I need somebody here
To fill an empty chair, to care
To share my lonely atmosphere
My lonely atmosphere

Looking out my window watching people passing by
Everyone has someone, tell me why can't I
Find some of the love that is walking out there
When will someone bring love to my lonely atmosphere

I need somebody here
To fill an empty chair, to care
To share my lonely atmosphere
My lonely atmosphere

I need somebody here
To fill an empty chair, to care
To share my lonely atmosphere
My lonely atmosphere

Sadly this is a perfect description

These two songs are me to a 'T. One thing about these songs though. My friend -who I knew since about 3rd grade- and I used to ride in his truck starting in 11th grade and play these everytime we rode for years. At times I remembered those times when I heard these songs and it took me to another place, out of reality. A few years later when I went to the military, I visisted him and we hung out for a few. He looked muted, distant, quiet. I found out 3 mo later he left this world on his own terms 3 days after I saw him. As I listen to these songs, I don't acquiesce to temptation of thinking about it nor go back to that time any longer. I listen to these words that (singer) Layne is singing and they are as if he is singing an a biography of me, to me.

The sun came pouring upon my face
I heard the silence of empty space
Took my passion, my dream of life
Let me, too weak to fight
Please don't say it, I won't take it anymore
Why should I run and hide

[Chorus:]
We, we are what we are
We're just like anybody else
We, we are what we are
We only want to be ourselves

Look up above me, look all around
Imagination, is what I found
I never asked you, to go away
Didn't want to cause you pain
Please don't say it, I won't take it anymore
Why should I run and hide

[Repeat Chorus]
Ourselves, Ourselves

[Repeat Chorus] x3

It's an Urdu song (btw i do think he most likely had ASD from other things about him).
The main line translated, says:

Why should we walk on that path, the same path that everyone walks on?
Why shouldn't we choose that way, upon which no-one has walked?

which to me sounds like a constant refrain for anyone with ASD.

The girl/'beloved' represents the life the person actually wants to join, living freely with her music.

The rest of the lyrics say

Heart sorrowful, gaze sorrowful
If the beloved is not nearby
Days and nights are spent sighing
And remaining unfulfilled.

This game itself is useless
It's nothing but slow-burning cinders.
In this fire, why should we burn?
Moment to moment, why should we die?

Why should we walk on that path, the same path that everyone walks on?
Why shouldn't we choose that way, upon which no-one has walked?

Just a matter of looking,
Not to one love, but to a thousand loves,
Thousands of beloveds (in this context means, what one is devoted to) are hiding,
And watching the path.

Let's give in to what love is asking
By recognizing our own beloved (devotion),
Be dyed in such a colour
That we stand apart from the others.

Why should we walk on that path, the same path that everyone walks on?
Why shouldn't we choose that way, upon which no-one has walked?

Here is another Lemon Pipers song that I think might express how we sometimes feel.
"Catch Me Falling"
Give this a listen on Youtube. Tell me what you think. Here are the lyrics.

[Verse 1]
I've been here for days
Looking for the right road
Searching for some kind of friend
To help me bear my load

[Chorus]
Catch me falling
Hold me, I'm slipping through
Stop me from fading away

[Verse 2]
I've tried every kick there is
And some yet to be found
Fun's so hard to find
While there is no one else around

[Chorus]
Catch me falling
Hold me, I'm slipping through
Stop me from fading away

[Break 1]

[Verse 3]
There are times when I decide
To pack up and move on
But what good would that do?
It's the same each place I have gone

[Chorus]
Catch me falling
Hold me, I'm slipping through
Stop me from fading away
Catch me falling
Hold me, I'm slipping through
Stop me from fading away

[Break 2]

This one reminds me of my elder son and sadly I think he will continue to slip away as severe ASDers in this province get nothing in terms of help.

I'm new, here so found this and was fascinated by the topic.

I am sunken by the lyrics of any songs that is haunting me, shivering my soul and speaks in clear volumes of how I feel, which I am pretty sure, this was the point of the thread.

I discovered The Stranglers, months back, it was my father's collection and I found in general whenever I am filled with suspcious and seriousness. Walk on by is my daily song....

Play Dead by Bjork, mad world by Gary Jules or Tears4Fears but I am superstitous at times, because of my poor spelling, interest in the unknown, the supernatural and religion.

Whenever I am feeling in the particular way like happy, a song that has not been played in loops, every time I reset the shuffle, a song comes out the woodwork and starts playing.

Does anyone has those feelings of bewilderment I suppose or am I swimming alone on this?

More paranoia than autism.

But...those things can be comorbid I suppose.

For me, Space Oddity expresses perfectly the isolation, the feeling of being cut off from everyone around you. Also, feeling out of place, detached, like floating in space.

Then, there is Creep by Radiohead:

Somehow this song (you can turn on English caption):

The opening song of Tokyo Ghoul (this is an english version of it):

Finally, Javier Navarrette's music for Pan's Labyrinth. Although (or mybe because of) it is instrumental, it deeply resonates with me:

I've always felt that the movie Frozen was a good metaphor for autism; a woman has a condition that is both a blessing and a curse, which other people don't understand and shun her for, and which her parents spend her childhood trying to cure and keep contained. I feel like Let It Go is a good autism song because it's about accepting and embracing your differences, and showing that being different can be a gift.

Totally agree. For me, Frozen has always been about autism.
